I need a little help. When I got my black MM a few months ago it had some really stubborn hard water stains on the finish and an extremely faded hood. I tried the Meguiar's "Black Box" kit and it brought some shine back, but it still looked like crap. I then got some Meguiar's Ultimate compound and polished the hood by hand - 100% improvement. I did the rest of the car with the Meguiar's Ultimate compound using a cheap orbital buffer and a polished it with a sheepcloth cover on the buffer. It got rid of the hard water spots very well. I then waxed the car. But... I soon discovered that in certain light, there are severe orbital marks that only show when the light catches just right - but they're very noticeable when the light hits them. A buddy gave me some Liquid Ebony glaze and I was hoping the glaze would fill the swirls, but it didn't.
So... what's my best course of action for removing the swirls? I've already spent many hours on the finish so I figured I'd better ask you guys who can feel my pain with black cars. Haalp! The paint shines like new, if I could only get rid of these swirls

I've used Liquid Ebony many times over the years, in fact I don't believe you can still buy it. Their are two compounds, 1. Rubbing compound 2. Polishing compound, one is a finery grit. Do the polishing compound to get most of the swirl's out and then you have to use a anti swirl compound, Liquid Ebony should work. No free lunch here need to take your time and work it, sounds like you burned swirls into paint and have to polish them out.

Correct - I don't think you can buy it anymore. My buddy used it for his GN actually, so it's apropriate you know about it, ha. This is probably the polishing compound - it's very watery and it works like a glaze. I guess I rushed with the buffer since daylight was running out on me and burned the swirls in like you said. Wish it weren't winter, the nice days to actually work on it are few and far between :(

I used the Porter-Cable 7424XP, setting 2 1/2 with a 9006 Meguiar's foam soft pad, and the Meguiar's Professional Swirl Free Mirror Glaze polish #82. The results were amazing, removed all holograms, and scratch marks, looks great in the sunlight, with the wash, dry, and buff out took 4 hours and 15 minutes.
That's what worked for me, I know friends that have used the 3M Perfect-It system, with excellent results, though I don't know the procedure.

I use 3M products. The perfect-it rubbing compound and ultrafine machine polish. Used with a variable speed polisher and the appropriate 3M pads. It's pricey, but it really is the only way to remove the holograms.
