Well the whole setup is finally here.
Except I need a mechanic lol...anyone know of a good shop that's local? And can possibly install my gears? Im Hoping that if the price is right I can install them before winter but if not, Ill save up more money/goodies.and install them after winter.
Thanks guys lol :)

I can't help you on the shop part, but make damn sure they put red loctite on the ring gear bolts. The mechanic who did mine didn't do that and he almost got me killed.

Red loctite? What is that exactly? A fancy word for friction modifier??
But if you don't mind asking how did that almost get You injured??

Loctite is put on the threads of bolts to prevent them from backing out. If the bolts that hold the ring back out they can lock up the rear which would send you into a tailspin depending how fast you are going.

Red loctite is a liquid used to put on bolts to hold them together or sort of glue them together for lack of a better word. Loctite makes several kinds like blue, red and others but red is used for bolts that you don't want to come out easily i.e. ring and pinion gear bolts. You pretty much have to use heat or a bad azz impact gun to remove the bolts.

What happened was, since he didn't put red loctite on was the bolts backed out of carrier over about a year and half. When that happened the car stopped on a dime and wouldn't move because the axles could no longer turn. I was lucky that I was about to pull out of a gas station into on coming traffic when it broke. If it had broken while I was going down the highway at 80 mph with a vehicle or a semi behind me then I would probably be dead.

I would think that the gears would have been whining before this would happen...I guess it would depend on if all of them were loose.

The gears did whine but they refused to fix them so I just drove it anyway. Two or three of the bolts broke off and the rest backed themselves out during that time.

Have deans performance do the installation for you.he doesn't charge that much like other shops and he does a good job. He charged me 325 including the fluids he also installed a ford racing limit slip traction lok. Guspech refered me to him. Here's a link http://www.deansperformance.com/

Ahh, the tell tale sign was there. I hate hearing that a shop will not stand behind their work...I am sorry about that for you. It makes all Auto Techs and shops look bad when that happens. You know, we all make mistakes, just stand up and make it right!

Yeah I just sent him an email like an hour ago maybe? Just waiting for his response. Hopefully he won't charge that much :)
But yeah I practically have all the fluids and such so I don't think I would need anything from them lol

1 bottle of Ford Racing Performance Parts Friction Modifier
2 bottles of Royal Purple 75W90 gear oil

Hey Junior. If you don't get a reply soon. Call Hans at Deans. Leave a message. Email him again. Etc etc. Sometimes he won't respond for some time. But Hans is a one man wrenching machine!! And takes great care and pride in his work. And great prices to boot.

He did my gears over two years ago. Quiet as a mouse. He did Justbobs, Riskys and a few others rear gears. Not to moention many many Mustangs too.

Hans is worth the wait!!

That's not the correct gear fluid you have. You need 75w-140. Ford changed it.

Ford changed the spec to 75w140 after they had the rear axle issue with the 2003 MM's. Get a good synthetic fluid. Most will have friction modifier already in it.

Yeah imma call back the manufacturer and ask if they can exchange the fluids first thing tomorrow. We'll see how it goes lol

I'm literally on the phone write now with the manufacturer and they saying that it'll be fine if I use 75w-90 than the 75w-140 because all it is is simply handles different temperature.
That ford specified using the 90 for the 4.10 gear setup.
So what You guys think?

But they did tell me that I could ship back these fluid and get an exchange. But They have 85w-140 not 75w-140.
So what would be better, 85w-140 or 75w-90?? :sly: lol

Ford changed the spec from 75w-90 for a reason.......

I'd go with 75w140 or the 85w140. Is it synthetic? If not you'll need friction modifier also.

The kit already came with an extra bottle of friction modifier. So exchange it for 85w140?

And well check this out, look what it says in the manual..lol 80w-90

like these guys were saying though that the specification changed so that manual was either printed with the car or they just never updated it when they changed the spec. its a difficult thing to just redo the whole manual for one spec. if these guys have it in their car without any issues id follow them. the lighter weight oils and fluids can cause it to fail sooner than expected or just to fail period.

Yeah true true, gotta make that correction on my manual lmao well it seems imma go with 85w-140 so meanwhile I get the exchange of fluids imma try to contact Deans performance lol soon very soon.
(Sorry if I annoyed anyone with my questions lol)

BTW, did You get my PM fastblackmerc???

75-90 might be ok for stock gears but for 4.10 you want the thicker gear oil! as long as its not opened just exchange it at local auto supply store.

im not sure of the recommended service intervals but if you ever do decide to drain and refill the rear end just make sure when you do that that its all clean inside before you change to a different gear oil. im not sure if it will make a difference because i know some oils cant be mixed. i doubt anyone was annoyed because theres probably a ton of people with your same question that just didnt ask it. thats the point of this forum haha good luck with everything.

because all it is is simply handles different temperature - This is BS. Person is winging it as they don't know how to answer you.

Because of the axle issues, they changed the spec to provide better lubrication. The hot viscosity of 140 provides a thicker film coat on the bearing surfaces and gear teeth (for when oil is compressed in the gear teeth when under load). This prevents bearing failure and R&P gear wear.

The aftermarket literature will probably only show the original production spec of 75w90. The spec change is probably only in Ford literature.

You want to use the 75 or 85w140.

Lucky!! Yeah its a good, no more than 50min drive. Probably take me 40mins to get down there...I was thinking of heading over there later on today(Saturday) but I went on his website and it said only open on Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm. You'd think he be open on Saturday?? :what: if not I was thinking of going Monday afternoon right after school...so Joe, Bob, what day or time do you guys suggest I should head over there? I kinda want to make to sure he's there that way I wont drive ALL the way over there for no reason you know? Lol

It seemed like it cause every time I would ask a question like, "are you sure 75w-90 will work? Many Marauder owners highly suggested I use 75w-140 because Ford change the specifications to fix an issue on the early 03's Marauder.."
The vehicular expert: "oh...uh hold on please give Me a sec." 5 minutes later...still waiting.
