This thread (http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83660) had me thinking about build numbers, colors, etc. and who has what car. So I decided to begin a spreadsheet and document build numbers IN ORDER with username and whatever else I can come up with. It might be a little more work than anyone would like, but it sure beats sifting through archived threads to see who's got what!

NOTE: I AM ONLY USING FORD-CERTIFIED BUILD NUMBERS. IF YOU DON'T HAVE CERTIFIED INFORMATION, DON'T POST WHAT YOUR BROTHER'S FRIEND WHO USED TO SWEEP THE FLOORS AT STAP TOLD YOU. :D

This is what I've got so far:
2003 list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkrXA8UnRzIXdHRUUVhYR 3FuN2U2S1NtVW0wcmFTZFE) ||| 2004 list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkrXA8UnRzIXdG5Bc1RXN kdiV3B5UHdaZFpnTmpxT2c)

If you'd like to be added, I'll need the following pieces of information:
build number by year (i.e. if you have a 2004, I need "#455 of 3214")
VIN (complete VIN please, not just the last 6 digits)
Year
300A/B
Ext. color (DTR, DBP, SB, BLK)
Int. color (DC, LF)
Color sequence (i.e. #132 of 7093 black cars)
Build date
Username
misc other information about the car* - heated seats, CD changer, moonroof, Trilogy/Eaton/Vortech, Canadian km/h cluster -- let's keep this very limited, please

*Abbreviations in the misc. columns are as follows:
6CD = 6CD changer
HS = heated seats
MR = moonroof
4A = preproduction car (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29635)

If you'd like to be included, simply respond with all of the requested information in this thread!

If you don't have it...DON'T POST.

........to be added to it, you MUST HAVE YOUR CERTIFICATE FROM FORD. I will not be using the sequence numbers that we used to use, rather the build numbers straight from the factory.

If you don't have your build number, don't bother responding.

If you do, I will be adding the following info - must match your FORD CERTIFICATE:

build number
VIN
year
A or B
ext color
int color
color sequence (i.e. 323 of 328 blues)
build date
your username

Replies here if you want in, and it must be complete (otherwise there's no point in taking this project on). Don't PM me. Keep this thread on topic. Please.

Got it!
And for everyone else, I am using the following abbreviations.

Exterior colors:
BLK, SB, DTR, DBP

Interior colors:
DC, LF

So as you can see I'm not using the Ford stuff. Just easier for everyone involved rather than trying to figure out what DX is.

I ALSO NEED BUILD DATES!

VIN

Ext. color

As you can see there's not much there yet. Maybe a mod can sticky this thread?

Yes and No ^^^^.

All 2004 MMs are 300A because there was only one job in the model year run (but they have "most of" the same features as the 2003 300B models). I say most because of the black valve covers and the underhood lights on some 2003 300Bs.

2003 MM year had two jobs (there was a mid-year change)

2003 300A were the initial production that ran until about October 2002.

Pretty certain that all 2003 300A's were black.

Silver Birch and Blue MMs were added to production beginning in about October 2002.

All 2003 Blue MMs are 300B (No Blues made in 2004). I think all 2003 Silver Birch MMs are also 300B. 2004 SBs are 300A. :D All 2004 DTRs are 300A (No DTRs made in 2003)

2003 Black MMs could be 300A or 300B (and there were some in-betweeners that had a combination of 300A & 300B features). The "Tweeners" have been called "Pre-Decontented" MMs meaning before all the 300A contents were removed (e.g. full sized spare, remote fuel door, map pockets, separate dash clock, etc).

Thanks to those who've given information so far. You should be on the list if you've responded with information in this thread. Check for accuracy, though I think we're golden.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you can add those cars known to have been totaled as well, if the required info is known. I'll add any Marauder that we know the Ford-certified build number for, even if it isn't owned by anyone anymore. Where the username goes, I can put [totaled] in the owner's column. If a member has sold their car but had a certificate, I can also put that information in similarly, i.e. [last seen in PA] or [sold to non-member in NC].

Unless I am mistaken all '04's are A cars? SOo to speak. A & B were only '03's and then it only appiled to the blacks Honestly I never bothered to learn much about the differences other than map pockets and full-size spares. Either way, with the '04s, I remembered that they were As once you mentioned it. For the sake of accuracy I'd request that this information still be added so I don't forget.

All 2003 Blue MMs are 300B (No Blues made in 2004). I think all 2003 Silver Birch MMs are also 300B. 2004 SBs are 300A. :D All 2004 DTRs are 300A (No DTRs made in 2003)

Thanks for the info - will refer to this when I have a totaled car and am not sure what to classify it as!

Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. If you guys are gonna whine (pun intended) until I add them I guess I will do that too. My thinking in adding those was that it was a Marauder-specific limited production (i.e. also numbered) part.

Do your Eatons and Vortechs have a #23 of 424524 on them? I didn't think they did.

A sticky at the top would be more helpful than a bunch of PMs to sift through. Though I don't know if the mods would be interested. I've added what I could so far, but if there is an error or something missing with your car, please respond in this thread. I went through this thread:
http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=82618
...and added most of the info. Some of the 4A/preproduction stuff is really confusing me so I either left it out or wrote "maybe?" in an additional column.

As far as listing mods, listen, I don't want to get in the business of updating a spreadsheet every time someone puts a set of headers on a car, or upgrades their pulley, or changes the damn oil. You guys mod quicker than I'll be able to keep up. I'll list Trilogy, Eaton, Vortech, etc. but anything more minor than an aspiration or displacement change I'll need to hear a convincing argument for. Fair?

The only things that should be listed is what was available from the factory / dealer. I agree, but I screwed up by starting to add the Trilogy numbers early on, so now I've gotta do other stuff. I haven't had anyone mention a moonroof yet but I guess I should add those too. So I will use the following abbreviations:
MR=moonroof
HS=heated seats
6CD=trunk-mounted changer

I am not adding trunk packs, spoilers, or anything that was factory-optioned and added later.

front license plate bracket. Added the HS/6CD. I am leaving the bracket off as most car manufacturers will include this on cars going to states that require front plates; at the very least it's not an option that was likely tracked as "1 of 7553 with front license plate brackets", or an option where people go "ooh, I wish my car had [heated seats, 6CD changer, etc.]"

Man, if you had a DTR, I had a perfect joke. Oh well.

Anyway - I've got this going in Motor City Marauders and CrownVic.net as well. I did find two DEFYANT threads:
http://www.motorcitymarauders.com/forums/showthread.php?p=117104#post11 7104
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58058

5:31am Eastern Time: I have compiled info from them - though they are not complete by my standards, so the spreadsheets will not reflect all of the information. DEFYANT, if you're tuned in here (I also posted at MCM) - sorry, hadn't seen your threads when I decided to do this and hope you don't feel I'm stepping on your toes.

While doing this, I've found a few cars that raise red flags - either dates/build #s not corresponding (which leads me to believe these are 4A [preproduction] cars or had been sent back for repair during manufacture), cars I believe to be totaled or sold, etc. I have indicated this as best as possible in the I and J columns of my spreadsheet. Pretty self-explanatory when you see it.

Brian, aka RoyLPita, was nice enough to supply me with the Oasis report info for my Rauder that I was looking for without having to purchase a Ford certificate.

Would like to be a part of this list. Please add me..... I'll be happy to add you once I know that the info Brian gave you matches what Ford gave you.

Prior to Ford providing these certificates, Brian was the only way of knowing approximately what build number your car was. This was done by looking at the sequence numbers in the VIN.

Unfortunately due to preproduction cars and stuff, the numbers were not 100% accurate.

For example, my number was 504. When I got the certificate from Ford, I moved to 420.

So please, call the number listed in the first post of this thread and confirm your info (or post here that you've already done it). Once that's done and we have Ford-certified information, I will be sure to add it! :beer:

Pat's Silver Birch is an '04, so

add 7838 FOR # in 11,052. = 8381 MM produced.

I guess you would add 543 to the total # of '03' Silver Birches to get the number of your Silver Birch overall in the Silver Birch family.

417 seems like a number Bluerauder likes so add 543 to it and Pat's Silver Birch sould be #960 of all Silver Birches. :)

WTH are you talking about?? :rolleyes:

2003 Silver Birch MM = 417
2004 Silver Birch MM = 997
Total Silver Birch MMs = 1,414

Pat's car is likely #543 of 997 '04 SB MMs OR #543 of 1,414 Total SB MMs.

There's even a chance that he might be #960 of 1,414 SB MMs (i.e. 417 ('03) + 543 = 960). I suspect it is as "bolded" above ^^^^^ and reflects his position only in the '04 count.

I wouldn't worry to much about all the extra stuff for your chart a.d.a.m.. The moonroof should be reflected in the incomplete vin code. The rest of it, not that important. If parts were dealer installed or someone put something on their car in the driveway, not really all that relevant to what you originally set out to do.

610461 is lower than my VIN of 610749, so I believe his numbers to be inaccurate - my car is a confirmed 6/3/02 #420.

You may be right but I'd say it's possible, cars still probably not built more than two or three days apart...

That Black/Light Flint combo is very rare. Only 115 made in 2003. Just 271 overall when you add in the 2004's.

Thanks for the info. It is a very sweet MM. It only has 35,000 miles.

I am the original owner, however, I let my son drive it since it was new. He is now a Law Student at UNLV Boyd School of Law.

I recently bought him a 2012 Challenger SRT8, so I get to drive the MM every few months when I visit him. :banana:

Gotcha added, HBTMD. Based on what I have on my list your car will have a build date of 2/6/03 or 2/7/03. I am not adding things like SS inserts or braided brake lines. Again, more of just the factory stuff. We've all customized our cars and modded them to our own tastes so I'm not after that. Basically just going for what a Ford certificate would have + a few of the build sheet options.

And you bought your son a Chally SRT8? Got room in your family for one more? I could use a car like that... :D

Thanks for the offer Adam, however, the next SRT8 I purchase will be for me. :beer:

Thanks for the kind and generous offer Adam.

However, my wife and I use the MM every time we visit our son in Henderson, NV. In addition, our son needs a less expensive car when he is slumming it in the seedy parts of Vegas, especially near Fremont Street. In that area, the dirt bags don't know a Blk MM from a Metro Police care. They tend to scatter and scurry away (like the vermin they are) when it approaches. :lol:

Adam have you looked over at MMC.com? They have a list of 03-04 vins. Can you link me? I do not see it...unless I'm blind. I assume you mean MCM.com?

His profile page says #27 March 12 2002. Over at Motor City Marauders there was question as to whether or not his was first, with such an early build date the thinking was that this car "is" the first Marauder but that it was a press car, and that after it made its rounds, it was shipped back, refurbished, and then sold 'new'. I have no idea what Ford actually ranks him but with that build date, I have to believe that car is the first one technically built.

Think about it. If he was #27 (as in the 27th actual car to roll off of STAP) he would have to be built AFTER May 27th.

#30 is one of those preproduction cars, so I guess cmalo technically probably IS #27. That's one of those Marauder Mysteries I haven't quite solved yet, but it's in the back of my skull to figure out what the rule is.

Maybe a call to Ford is in order.

I'll have to check that out. I completely forgot about that site.

I guess when it comes to cmalo and the other preproduction cars, I will probably just put them on the list wherever FORD says they're supposed to be. I.E. if Ford says they belong in a different place further down the list, so be it. Then I can just mark in another column that the car was likely preproduction.

Idunno. Haven't decided yet...

All,

My son now owns the oldest Marauder in the club. I sold it to him in 2006 or so (working from memory here). It's in my garage as I write this and is still in beautiful condition. - never been hit or abused (except for a few 1/4 mile passes) . He does have a certificate from Ford - which I will get a copy of and post here. I'll get some current pictures as well.

The VIN and build date are listed below from the club's spreadsheet.

2MEHM75V73X600045, 2003, 300A, BLK, DC1/7093, 3/12/2002, cmalo

As you can see, the VIN ends in 60045. There was some question early on whether the VINs were sequential. I think it's been found they are. When I bought the car (in CY 2004 I think) I began to notice things like the Red 4PP tags on the frame (he still has those). Also - they early cars have different exhaust baffles and some other small differences. Ford Motor Company certified it as the real McCoy. We have the history of the car from Roy L. Pita and Carfax. Ford owned the car for the first 5,990 miles then sold it. It's a family keeper.

I attached a few documents. 1 is a picture of me driving the car at Milan dragway (Milan, Michigan), the others are summaries of information I have on file.

Thanks for chiming in on this. I am going to leave your car at #1 of all '03-'04 Marauders produced, and leave a link in my spreadsheet that goes back to your post in this thread.

Very cool info, by the way! Glad to hear that the car is still in the family.

{ORIGINAL POST DELETED/EDITED!}
Thanks to the mods for making this a sticky, and thanks to all who are participating.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CERTIFICATE, YOU CAN CALL FORD AND GET YOUR BUILD INFORMATION. IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE EITHER OF THESE THINGS, DON'T BOTHER RESPONDING. RoyLPita sez "Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate."

This is what I've got so far:
2003 list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkrXA8UnRzIXdHRUUVhYR 3FuN2U2S1NtVW0wcmFTZFE) ||| 2004 list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkrXA8UnRzIXdG5Bc1RXN kdiV3B5UHdaZFpnTmpxT2c)

6CD = 6CD changer
HS = heated seats
MR = moonroof
4A = preproduction car (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29635)

If you'd like to be included, simply respond with all of the requested information in this thread!

Without build numbers, I can't really put it in the spreadsheet as far as build/sequence numbers. And I really don't have the time to spend hours on the phone with Ford begging for this information.

What I could do is create another spreadsheet with VIN numbers for totaled MMs...

Thanks for continuing to do this for us.

Could you take the VINs with no known build# and insert them into the spreadsheet where they might fall in the build order - Using the existing VINs?

There are large gaps/rows where the VINs could just be tracked. If a member gets a certificate that takes the row, just shift the unknown build # VIN to another row: higher or lower.

I occurred to me that all VINs could be tracked in one spreadsheet this way.

Your call.

Thanks again,

just wondering when will the spread sheet come out ????????????????/

a_d_a_m
01-13-2014, 08:14 PM
As already stated, VIN numbers are not chronological. This is partly due to the fact that certain cars are removed from the line and repaired prior to release. I witnessed this firsthand at the STAP 2010 and STAP 2011 tours; cars with body defects would come off of the line and be sent back for correction. Therefore, the 'built' date is not actually chronological with regards to the VIN, which as far as I am aware is assigned on the first day the car starts being built. I.E. my Marauder's VIN was assigned probably in late May '02.

I think, at this point, that the best idea is to keep a completely separate spreadsheet of all of the totaled Marauders (and there are a TON of them). I would hate to input data on all of the totaled Marauders into the existing spreadsheets, only to cause confusion later down the line with regards to how certain VIN numbers got plugged into certain places. Then again, I haven't seen the info on all the totaled cars yet...

My end goal with this project is to keep going with the Ford-certified build numbers for as long as I am a member here. Hopefully new members will share their VIN data so we can make the most comprehensive list possible.

Doing it this way does not require much assistance, but I may investigate giving 'permissions' to those who wish to have editing privileges. At this point, I do not know how to do that without sharing my e-mail password with people - that ain't gonna fly! :lol:

I guess what I'm saying with regards to all of this is that I need some time to think about how I want to proceed. Discussion is certainly okay, but don't expect this to be a super huge priority for me. As far as I'm concerned, they're not making any more Marauders, and I've got other crap to worry about on a day to day basis. Cool? Cool.

just wondering when will the spread sheet come out ????????????????/ It is out! Check the links in my signature. There is a separate list for 2003 and 2004 cars. There are large gaps in it, because we are sampling a small portion of the Marauder-owning public. The goal is to slowly fill the list up.

You can set up the file on Gmail drive and allow select people to have access to it. To make changes and stuff. They would be owners. Everyone else would just be viewers.

Just a suggestion

Are all 2004's 300A's?

Yes, because there was only one "job" in 2004 they are all 300As (i.e. no model changes in mid-year). In 2003 there were two "jobs" because of the switchover to the "De-Contented" version that added traction control and removed some stuff to pay the bill.

Just keep in mind that the 2004 MMs have the same features as the 2003 300B MMs as far as donut spare, traction control, manual fuel door, etc.

The 300A or 300B distinction is irrelevant for the 2004 MM. It is just sufficient to say that you have an '04 Marauder. The A vs. B discussion is only meaningful when discussing the 2003 MMs.

{ORIGINAL POST DELETED/EDITED!}
Thanks to the mods for making this a sticky, and thanks to all who are participating.

2003 list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkrXA8UnRzIXdHRUUVhYR 3FuN2U2S1NtVW0wcmFTZFE) ||| 2004 list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkrXA8UnRzIXdG5Bc1RXN kdiV3B5UHdaZFpnTmpxT2c)

6CD = 6CD changer
HS = heated seats
MR = moonroof
4A = preproduction car (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29635)

If you'd like to be included, simply respond with all of the requested information in this thread!

Build number 222 Ahem...please direct your attention to the first post...

NOTE: I AM ONLY USING FORD-CERTIFIED BUILD NUMBERS.

6CD = 6CD changer
HS = heated seats
MR = moonroof
4A = preproduction car (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29635)

If you'd like to be included, simply respond with all of the requested information in this thread!
