What is that bell shaped thing mounted on the muffler bracket? It looks like the German Bell or something. I was looking under the car for my next mod and I saw that thing. The car just got the .410 gears in yesterday and I am looking to make an exhaust upgrade. Maybe some 3 chamber Flowmasters. It is still my 72 year old moms car so I don't want it to loud. I would like to pick up some horsepower to go with the gears, programmer, and K&N that I have already installed.

It's a weight to keep the system form vibrating.

It's a weight to counteract certain frequencies that the exhaust creates.
I think mine are gone!

Stock Marauder exhaust has them. Does it still "ping" when cooling off?

I believe that"ping" is the exhaust contracting.

I have a small vibration in my new SW exhaust system from time to time. Irritating, but there are certain trade offs for high performance that I am more than happy to live with. JMOD is another good example.

I have aftermarket mufflers and not sure if the exhaust piping was upgraded but I have "pings" under the hood when my car is cooling off. Maybe exhaust too.

So it is a "PING" arestor? I wish I could have invented that. I think I will just throw it away.

No, it's for the annoying vibrations. Don't remove it unless you have to.
Can the part be ordered?
Anyone have a part #?

Stock exhaust actually flows pretty well. If you want to pick up noticable HP from the exhaust, you're looking at headers and an X pipe.
Alternatively, you can pick up a couple HP by a rear cat delete, but that'll increase the noise a bit.

Mine was rattling and I added back the ones from a CV or GM......killed the obnoxious rattle and eliminated the little bit of drone I had at certain speeds!!:bows:
Now ALL the exhaust sounds are behind me!!:D

Wait a minute - You're hotrodding your 72 yr old mom's car? Does she still drive it? How many passes down the 1,420 does she have? :-)

1320-1420, whatever it takes. Yes she does drive it. She thinks its fast. I have a bad habit of Hot Rodding everything. Last week I decided to just pull the engine out of my 1970 Camaro and put on a Milodon road race oil pan. The neighbors just sit around in lawn chairs and watch me.
Anyone have a part number for this???

I thought I found it but it is not even listed on Ford Parts. It must be a HUGE collector item now. I wonder if it will become as valuable as an original Hemi Cuda hose clamp or Boss 429 air cleaner?

Probably not that valuable!!
Most boneyards that have dead cop cars will have 'em if they haven't already crushed the exhaust systems like so many do!!:argue:
Check your Ford parts counter...that's where I got mine!!
I just checked your parts search and found them.......SF-240 for CV with dual exhaust!!
http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/CatalogResults.aspx?y=2000&m=Ford&mo=Crown%20Victoria#Search
Marauders had 'em welded to the back of the mufflers!!

I just tried using the part number you provided SF-240 with your link and 0 results came up!
I'll check with my dealer on Monday.
Thanks.
Now I see what the problem was!
You said the part # was SF-240! It's not! It's 5F-240!
