Rearend that is.

I'm leavig a local shopping plaza doing some christmas shopping. Im waiting at the light to left hand turn to get on the ramp to the expressway when I hear the all too famous mustang exhaust behind me then it pulls beside me. I think nothing of it. Light turns green, we pull off and I have to merge over so I try to speed up a bit not even thinking about the mustang but as i speed up he does. So i stomped it after we came out of the turn. My car drops a gear and snatches me into the seat ...shifts into second at about 62-6300rpm HARD as usual but this time .....poof goes the rear. Oil and etc everywhere.
Could it be a "you guys told me so" or "it just happened" ??? who knows. Bitter sweet situation. Sucks it broke but so sweet the wife cant trip about a "getting a new rearend for nothing" I HAVE A REASON so 430s here i come.

What let go the axel seals? Or the whole differential?

More importantly who was in front, you or the stang before the rear end "gave up the ghost" ? :)

You'll need a custom tune for the 4.30's as well as a better driveshaft...

***** happens......Gotta test for weak spots.

But as you stated, now you can get the 4.30s and rebuild the rear making it even stronger.

I further agree that it does suck that the rear blew but now you have a reason for getting a better one!!!!

Good luck with the rebuild.

Unless you sustain high speeds you do not need a driveshaft.

FWIW--I tried 430 gears for a month--put 410's back in--which I consider the optium gear set up for the MM..the 30's were too much rpm

My trans and rear end have held up just fine without leaks or vibrations for the last year with my 4.30's. The car has seen more than a few road trips now with the cruise at 80 for multiple hours, numerous 3rd gear burnouts standing still, and four trips down the strip at 111, all without fail. Car feels no different than it did stock at 80, besides the obvious higher RPM's. My car has 92,000 on the original Jmodded trans, but does have a 100% new 31 splined rear.

Beyond that, I can't really say what speeds would be a limiting factor besides what other members have experienced. All I know is I LOVE my 4.30's and wouldn't look back, at least not now. If I were to start daily driving the highway, I may consider it, maybe not?? I went from 23.5 to 19.8. Really not all that bad.

Whats "high speeds"

Only high speed that i will sustain is a highway traveled trip 3-4 hours 70-80mph

no disrespect intended. But it just wasn't for you. I know you're just giving me input its appreciated. But to me 410s are just starter gears for the marauder to me. Should've been a factory option.

I was referring into the triples. All cars have been treated differently over the last 10 years, but mine has proven running 80 on road trips is certainly not an issue.

Sounds like I'm in luck then.
