I have been going back and forth on this and figured I would make a thread to see if there would be any interest. Car is a 68 Torino GT Fast back numbers matching 428R Code car with 65k miles, black on black with C6 column shift and bench seat, very clean car. Car is 1 of 9 just did an underhood resto this last year car turns heads every where it goes. I need to grab some fresh pics which I will. I love the car but I want something newer I can play with and this is not a car I can resto mod. Would want to find something here in the mid west. I have a loan on the car with my local credit union . Just wanting something I will drive and enjoy more often and something my wife can enjoy also. Sale price is $28Kobo

Few nicks and scrathces paint is 17 years old but wouldnt know it looking at it
Hood has a spot where someone closed it and it made a dent by the hood hinge
at some time it had a side moulding you can see small mounting holes if you lok close but they do not stick out.

Beautiful car! My parents had a '68 GT with a 390 when I was a kid and I have fond memories of that car. I've always wanted to get one.
Good luck with the sale!

This car is gorgous. I had a similar one. If I were you, I would try it at a high profile auction block with reserve. Mecum or similar. This car is worthy of it. ;)
one of the best looking models Ford ever built..........

Agreed, I have a '69 Fastback with 428CJ, no not for sale had it almost 40 years...
Agreed. And with an R Code 428 CJ.
All the '68 428CJ cars were R codes but only the Mustangs had ram air from factory, in '69 the VIN determined if it had optional ram air(R code vs Q)...

Gorgeous!
Reminds me of my old 68 Cyclone GT, but mine didn't have that motor.
My co-worker at Ford (back in 1968) had a metallic green fastback, four speed 390, GT (buckets/console) with a metallic gold "C" stripe.
Made me rethink my Cyclone purchase, at least with regards to color and motor. (Mine was Madras blue (turquoise)/white stripes/302/4v).
Neither car was overly popular back then with the hot rod crowd.
GTO's, 442's, pony cars, and some MoPar runners were higher up on the food chain.

shows how odd the hobby is, wouldn't think a car like this would be worth much less than 40-50k let alone 28K. Awesome car.

yeah sadly its the type of car it takes the right person to want mustangs are more popular than torins. Now the car books higher than what I have it but the car IMO is not up to par to ask high book and not many people in the hobby will do that they think there cars is worth the max. I am really bad about not giving enough credit to the condition my cars are thats what all my freinds tell me lol

Did you ever notice that a section of the trunk floors of these cars is the top of the gas tank?
Found that out when dropping a leaking tank on my sis/in/law's 1968 Torino Brougham, white, black vinyl top. Nice car.
I crawled underneath, and then had to unbolt the tank from inside the trunk.

I'd bet you'd get more interest if it had the C stripe down the sides, was std on all '68 & '69 Torino GT(different each year though), it's also missing the GT grille ornament... Race mirrors are nice but not avail in '68...
The mention of having side moldings at one time gives me pause, GT did not use those, was a Fairlane or formal roof Torino "thing"...

Yeah not the safest design, same on my '69 Cobra... I believe the last to use that was the '71 Torinos... The '70 Maverick used the drop in tank, but '71 was redesigned with a solid rear trunk floor and under vehicle tank...
BTW there was no Torino Brougham till the '70 models... "Torino" was the top dog formal model(think small LTD) in '68 & '69...

I did a little research. (What else can a retired guy do all day?)
I could not find the Brougham name for 68, but I could swear it was called something besides plain old Torino. And, it had the fancy "comfortweave" upholstry like the LTD's, ie, fancy fabric, not vinyl.
Also, the stripe was an option even on the GT. (Pretty sure I payed extra for the stripe on my 68 Cyclone GT.)
But, I think I found one error in the writeup.
The 68 T was not offered with the 302/4V. The Cyclone was.
I know this because when I went to the strip with my Merc, they used Torino motor specs (direct from Ford), and told me my 4 barrel was an add on, and I wound up in a Modified Production class.
I got destroyed.
Yep "J" code 4bbl 302 option for the Cyclones(verified by vin)...
Nope ALL '68 & '69 Torino GT had stripes from factory(Formal Roof GT were on rockers)... I suppose there may have been a stripe delete option, but in the 44 years I've been around '68 & '69 Ford intermediates, I've never seen it listed in any literature... If you didn't want the stripe, may as well buy a Fairlane which was avail as a fastback(in Fairlane 500 trim, std F'lane was Formal Roof, 4dr & SW only)...

That's what I thought, except, I got this out of Wikipedia, 1968 Torino. (Check last sentence.) Maybe dealers just decided to stock Torino GTs with the stripe option.
The Torino model featured full colour-keyed carpeting, additional exterior and interior trim, and Torino crests on the 'C' pillar. The Torino GT's standard features included bucket seats and a console, special name plaques and exterior trim, GT markings on wheel covers, and courtesy lights on the inside door panels. The Torino GT was also available with a GT handling suspension package, which included extra-heavy-duty springs and shocks, and a heavy-duty front anti-sway bar. Four-speed equipped cars had staggered rear shocks which help resist axle hop. GTs were available with a stripe option, which started as a 'C' shape at the edge of the front fender, and two body stripes extended the length of the car.

That stripe info is just plain wrong, back when I was running the streets in '68 & '69 I don't ever remember seeing a GT without stripes(or none of the dozens I took parts from in the salvage yards)... The five GT I owned with orig paint all had stripes(302 2v, 351 2v, two 390 4V[auto & 4-speed] & a 428CJ Ram Air 4-speed[the 351 & 428 were '69])... I did have a sixth with repaint & no stripe, that was another column automatic with 289(something also not mentioned in the literature, as the 302 was std at the begnning of model year)...
Along with the 302 the GT also lost it's std bucket seats & console early in the '68 model yea, repl by bench and column shift(note the OP's is a column auto) three on the tree was the std transmission with 4-speed or C6 mandatory for the 428... Only one of mine had both bucket and console, that was the 390 4-speed GT(other 390 was bench & column auto)... The 302 GT had bench seat & column auto, the 351, had column auto with buckets & no console, & the CJ had buckets with & four speed & no console)
The staggered shocks was a change for the '69, 428CJ 4-speed option and why the '68 Torino 428CJ were all automatic(exception was Bunkie Knudson's personal 4-speed '68 Torino GT, but if you're president of FoMoCo, you can have anything you want)... I'm 99.9% sure no '68 Fairlane/Torino got the staggered shocks('68 428CJ 4-speed Stangs did have staggered shocks)...

That is a very nice car Sir. Market is starting an upturn and your price is very good.
Here's some info on the '69s, GT stripe std(see approx 2/3 way down)... My '68 info is packed away, maybe I'll dig it out in a few days...

Car had gold c stripes at one point they were never put on after it was repainted years ago. You can see some of the original stripe in the forward parts of the door jam, hood scoop and sport mirros were added by the dealer by the original owner, my father actually worked with the original owner at douglas in long beah california. Found that out when we replaced the carpet and found a department store card with his name on it was pretty neat to meet the guy. I saw two 68's at the fdairlane nationals in 98 or 99 that had a side moulding and one was a 68 black on black CJ car like mine but dont remember if it was a dealer deal or factory. Have the GT grill ornament in my tool box
yeah harley has been gone awhile now someone stole it right out of the driveway still miss that truck everyday.
