Searching for a wheel as my front has some curb rash from previous owner. Detroit wheel offers reconditioned wheels. To my understanding this is still a oem wheel? Just refinished? Is there any way to tell a real oem wheel to a fake?

Good question. I'd like to know also.
I remember seeing a reconditioned OEM Marauder wheel on ebay and was wondering if it was good to buy or not.

I wouldn't mind buying a refinished wheel as long as I knew it was oem. I guess reconditioned would be the proper way to say it. Hell, I would even have my other three refinished if they do nice work.

The weight is probably the largest factor...the OEM lookalikes are steel with chrome finish

Ahh ok. So if it was fake I could spin it around too and maybe see that it was steel from the backside? The weight would be a solid indication as well.

Not sure if they both might look the same from the inside. Best bet is to take a magnet.

are the factory wheels just cast aluminum?

Oem are forged. Aftermarket are cast. Never heard of a steel replica marauder wheel. Oem are laser engraved with ford logo.
Part number etc on backside

Awesome. The ford logo will be a dead give away. If it is a oem wheel or not. I want nothing to do with a replica wheel.

well, when i had my rear wheel replaced from an accident, there were 2 wheels to choose from, oem one being polished aluminum, the other being chrome. thats why i said the aftermarket wheels are steel.

Aluminum can be chromed so they are replica cast aluminum rims that have been chrome plated is all.

Either way a magnet wouldnt help. There are ebay wheels that were being sold as replicas. Those were actually labeled replica and I believe they were aluminum that was polished so the stamp is definitely important.
