This was my stock pistons and rods.

This was two years ago, I now have a 5.0 bad ass built by MMR.

Ooooooooh, not good....:(

How' this happen; dyno run, track run?

It all started...................driv ing home with wifey from dinner and I went to pass a car at about 3/4 throttle and afterwards heard a internal ticking noise. Very hard to pin down type of engine noise, thought it might be a timing chain adjuster so I replaced them the next day. Noise was still there so I decided to floor it hard down the road and see what bad parts would fall out. About 6 seconds later I had a hole in my block.

Better you than me ! Haha wow man its awesome pictures but it sucks. Is the hole repairable with a sleeve or is it shot?

Ahhh, not always the best plan of action, right? ;)

Keep us posted on the rebuild.

Gotcha! Didn't read the sig, was to bummed looking at the pics. Looks like you've got everything sorted out now.

Is that a new weight reduction mod? lol

That really sucks! Hope you can get it back on the road without too much hassle.

How much boost? Do you think this would of happened N/A?

I was OEM Boost for 50K miles for a total of 95K and 200+ passes with out my engine looking like that!
I heard a slight knock, nobody else could hear it, after a fuel pump went bad and went with a Cobra Long Block Reman. I now have 65K and 50+ passes on a Cobra Long Block.
What went wrong?

Mike M

Either the piston or the rod went first...who knows.

I ended up having to buy a brand new aluminum block as well as a oil pan.

Major carnage.

That was 12 psi, I doubt it would happen NA.

I think old Ray is worth about $4.00.

Hehe, I read an article somewhere saying Ford spent something like 80 cents a piece for these rods, I think they over paid.

How many miles were on the MM when it happened?

Mike M
12-07-2012, 09:55 AM
48000 miles, maybe 10 or 15k of those were boosted.

You found the weak spot!

I was going to say the same thing with the pics you posted....."carnage"

Disappointing that it happened to a motor with low miles but now you've got a better motor & built the way you want.

The old Paul T Casey sig fix. Works every time.

Holey block Mike. Was it a combo of winter gas & timming ?

Soak the piston in "Restore" that should fix the lost compression.

How much power were you makin at the time? This is an example why I want to run no more than 8 psi when I get around to an eaton swap.

Well, I dynoed it at 9psi and it made 410, then I put a 12psi pulley on it so I estimate it about 430 wheel hp.

With the new motor I am getting ready to go to 15 psi.

Just wondering,Was it retuned when you changed to a 12lb pulley? wow thats ugly!

Just wondering,Was it retuned when you changed to a 12lb pulley? wow thats ugly!yes i ask the same question, going from 9lbs to 12lbs will raise your power more than just 20whp.

Bingo. I make 466 with only 9 1/2 - 10 PSI. It was 11 1/2 without the headers and X and 445. It really depends on your combo and tune.

I'm not even tuned for my exhaust but I slid under the radar with a safe AFR (and also dyno confirmed) because the exhaust let the PSI drop almost two #'s thanks to more efficiency and only added 11 HP to my old tune.

I will be tuning it myself in the next couple weeks. I just put a Stryker 340 fuel pump in and 60lbs injectors.
Will be using my laptop and my A/F gauge to tune.

Wow, I was @ 472rwhp on a stock block with 9psi, kinda wonder how long it would have lasted till I had the sight glass mod installed?

Who knows? That's close enough to mine and its been over a year of thrashing with 92,000. Just purrs like a kitten. 😸
Yeah, it's nice having a spare engine patiently waiting.. Not too many people play hard enough to think of that! Just wondering if that day will ever come?
