View Full Version : Questions about our headlights

So, it's been a little over 2 weeks since I upgraded to HID heads/fogs. I did a quick 20-minute manual restoration of the lenses (cleaned with trans fluid and a headlamp restoration spray) and it made them look 100% better...in daylight. When I have my lights on, the yellow-brownish color around the inside edges (along the little ridges) and the 'dust/lint' that shows up on the inside of lenses is horrible (IMO).
I looked at new OEM headlights online, but the cheapest I've seen is ~ $350 for a pair. Just wondering if anyone knows of a cheaper route to get OEM headlights. I didn't see anything that says CV or GM headlamps are interchangeable with ours...or did I miss something? I don't want to get a used set, as they will likely have the same issues as mine.
Thanks.

ebay you can grab them for like 180 a pair. also i would have to recommend to apply the 3m film that goes over the outside of the lens to prevent them from yellowing. it works really well. those restoration things dont work and they all suck. i would never use them and i definitely dont recommend it. they only clear up some of the cover because you would have to shave it like 3 of 4 layers of plastic and then wet sand it to get it smooth again. still it wouldnt be good. try ebay though thats my best advice and cv lights have the turn signal or parking lights attached to them. not sure if its the parking or turn signal but still cant be used.

You can get new pair from tasca or tousley for $300. I tryed aftermarket one and they looked fine but had a bad light pattern. What evre you get then get the xpel (3m film) covers protects from pits and the sun around $45. Covers head /turn and fog lights

So, I gotta ask...what's the catch with the ones listed on carid? They're half as much as tasca or tousley...has to be a reason why. I'd rather pay ~$300 for a set that I know will fit/work vs paying ~$200 for a set that doesn't work and have to deal with the hassles of having to return them.

well i bought some stuff from car id before and they werent really much different from factory. i mean the lens itself probably says car id on it or it doesnt have the lines going across but from the picture they looked good and im sure they wouldnt sell something that doesnt fit. they probably are just mass produced the same as ford and as a matter of fact most of ford products are not U.S. made so they are about the same quality. i would at least buy one and just see how it is. worst case you have a spare if you dont want to return it or you could sell it on here for what you paid. someone somewhere may need a temp fix.
