Anyone have an old trashed 4.6 with the oil filter adaptor that they want to part with? I've developed a fairly decent leak.

Usually the leak is from the gasket. Sometimes the leak is caused by the two gaskets that were installed. Rarely do you see the adapter go bad.

Ken,

You sure it's the adapter? I have read where, after an oil change, the rubber gasket from the previous filter was stuck on the adapter and once the new one was put on, it leaked like hell as there were 2 gaskets on there.

Just asking buddy.

;)

Double gaskets are very common if the oil changes are spilt up over a long period of time because it gets almost melted and when you add another gasket it just sits too far off the block. Pull your filter and check if not then im shocked

It is reportedly before the filter. Some 4.6 Mustangs have had the issue, was thinking of having my mechanic remove it and see if the gasket between it and the block is leaking.

That gasket is a common problem. AutoZone sells them, they are about 10 bucks. You will have to drain the coolant and oil to change it. It took me about two hours including jacking up the car.

I assume youre not doing that on your own but if theres any way you could get a picture or two id like to check it out for future reference

Ken, I have replaced a few of these now. It is always the gasket. Pretty simple fix, just sucks to have to open the cooling system.

It's either the gasket or there maybe two gaskets on there from when the engine was assembled.

That's what he was saying, I told him to change the gasket, and inspect the adaptor, and order one if necessary.

I had the issue from the gasket behind the adapter....it was about 250.00 bucks to fix at the dealership.....I saw the leak...it was not from the double O ring issue. The part is fairly cheap....put the labor was expensive.

I might have one. I'll have to take a look.

Looks like that was the problem. No spot of new oil on the floor this morning. $155 including the oil change and anti freeze.

Good to hear Ken,

Not a bad price at all to get you back on the road!
