So I'm going into the shop to get a fluid swap on my trans, Dif, coolant and engine oil. I was wondering what if any I should ask for an additive to be added to which part of the swap and what kind of additive. I know you guys have said something about the differential. So I guess I’m looking for an answer from the experts. Is there something as far as the driveline is considered that I’m overlooking? Other than greasing the joints? BTW.. It’s going to a Ford dealer for the above mentioned. Thanks in advance for all your input!!

Trans - Use Mercron V - ONLY! Don't let them put an additive it the fluid to "make" it like Mercron V.
Oil - I recommend Mobile 1 full synthetic. 5w20 or 5w30
Oil filter - Motorcraft 820S
Coolant - Whatever matches the specs in the owners manual
Differential - 75w140. I recommend a good quality synthetic fluid like Redline so you don't have to add friction modifier.
FYI... there are no grease fittings unless you have Metco control arms and Watts link installed.

^^^what Jim said^^^
If you're having this work done at a Ford dealer, they *should* know the correct fluids to install. The only "additive" you should need would be the XL-3 friction modifier for the diff lube; Motorcraft gear oil doesn't contain it. Also, don't let them install 80W-90 gear lube, even though that's what the manual calls for. Ford revised the recommendation about 7 years ago to 75W-140 synthetic.

I'd suggest Lucas power steering fluid (safe for all cars) for the power pump..

Thanks for the info...I need to change the fluids in the trans and diff too...but with only 23,000 miles on the '04 DTR...I just have not gotten to those jobs yet.
Planning to go with synthetic for sure.
Already have Mobil 1 and I think the motor really likes it...
