Transmission shift 1-4 just fine. When crusin above 60 mph not under load you can see the tach creep up 500-600rpms. When I add a little throttle the clutches grab & tach drops 500 -600 rpms. I think the OD clutches are shot. When I get it rebuilt I want to go for known upgrades.
Does anyone know of a good shop on or close to Cape Cod, Massachusetts ?

Thirteen years ago he rebuilt a Borg Warner for my 1963 Vette. Why do you recomend Jack Hamilton ? Any idea who on Cape rebuilds the transmissions for the police force ?

I had work done there many years ago when he was located on Great Western, and he still has a good reputation. If I needed transmission work, I would at least talk to him first.

I'll ask Mary who does MPD's transmission work and see if there's a consensus with other departments.

Had some time to bring my car into a transmission shop. I was told the problem could be the servo or a tired torque converter. If it is the servo $350 would be the charge.
If I wanted a rebuild 300m stub shaft clutch packs new accumulator ect $2400. That seems high ?

Today I talked with the second recomended shop. Should it not be a simple fix I will go with a total rebuild. The upgrade cost would be $1800. The trans will get the goods 300m hardend stub shaft 4 alto he high energy reds intermediate clutches, 4 reverse cluthes spriral snap ring. upgraded accumulators larger diameter OD servo 2.7 carbon kevlar OD band & tail shaft lube that had been in closet for all of six years.

I brought the car in again last thursday. The owner of the trans shop took it out for a test drive to simlate conditions with no results. He said next time the car is good & hot bring it back he will hook up scan tool to read slippage. So today once again I brought it back. He hooked up scan tool said his tool does't read slippage. At this point Iam loosing faith. We went for a ride as we were talking I said he would have to watch my GPS for speedo reading because I backed out the tune & I have a gear change 4:10s He said he would have to call Ford to see if they can callibrate speedo with trans because of gear change it will effect rpm & shift points ect. After the ride he said could be torque converter. Not possitive until it is all apart. He also said when I come back bring in the x cal tunner we will load it to see the difference. At this point I don't know what to do ?

Burt,

First, How many miles do you have on your Marauder ?

Second, Have you EVER serviced your transmission at all ?

4R70W or 4R75W ?? (Door Code)

I bought the car new at a dealership. I have had the transmission serviced every 25,000 miles new filter & Mercon V only. At this time I have 187,000 miles. I use the car every day for work 90% highway miles. Not sure even though it is a 2004 I think it has the 4r70w.

Check your option label on the driver's door (IIRC).
A TRANS code of 'U' is a 4R75W.
Anything else is a 4R70W.

With 187k miles you may be due for a complete rebuild.
Your overdrive band may be worn out this mileage interval.
Most people tell me that this tranny will rarely get over 200k miles,
unless it is babied, with the OEM OD Band.
With an upgraded OD Band you can get a very long life.

I would expect it is a clutch pack in the trans but it could possibly be the TC??

My internal clutches wore and I got some slippage in 1st gear only at 177K miles and had it rebuilt WITHOUT a hardened shaft!!

My TC was reused and is still fine at 245K miles but if you are gonna rebuild the trans I'd do a reman converter or maybe aftermarket to be safe!!

GOOD LUCK!!
