Hey guys I rear ended a pickup truck with a trailer hitch on it a few days ago. Here's the damage: Bumper, bumper support, right side headlight assembly, grille, hood and right fender. My car is very good condition with 109,000 miles on it. The shop valued it at $9700 (NADA) and the estimate is $8400. I have not spoke to the insurance company yet but the shop told me the car will probably be a total loss because the insurance will only allow 75% of value for repairs. This comes to $7200.
The other problem is parts. The bumper and bumper support are not available. Also I think the value of $9700 is low. Should be more like $12,000. I welcome your comments.

Hood, fender are Marquis parts so readily available. Bumper and related will be harder to find. Bigcowlimp may have what you need. Headlites were available last year just make sure the dealer gets the MM specific. Black grilles were available last year and would just need to be painted what ever color your car is or try Bigcowl. Otherwise keep your eyes on the for sale section. Ebay and that sort of Internet stuff is another option.
I wouldn't let the insurance co. total it for what damage you described. It can be fixed up good as new with a little patience.
I see you're in NJ. Hope to see you at one of the local get togethers.:)

I agree here...internet and ebay and other sources should have what the Ford/Merc guys do not. Insurance company wanted to total my '93 Lightning (only 4500 miles on it) two years ago when it somehow went full force into a tree and curb in our local grocery store parking lot...still will never know how that happened...but thankfully no one was hurt and no other damage...
anyhow...my body shop folks and I were able to get hood and front fender and wheel and all the other parts that were damaged from those sources mentioned here...and we got the truck to look just about as good as it did before the accident.
Good luck with the fixing process if you decide to go that way.
Might take some time but it can certainly be done as I found out with the Lightning.

Who or what is Bigcowlimp?

Who or what is Bigcowlimp?
He is a member here and if memory recalls is also a vendor. He buys totaled MM's and sells parts. Check vendor area or members list and shoot him a PM for what you need, he's on the site quite often.
Don't know if you saw we are having a local meet today in Lambertville at the Lambertville Station restaurant at 11:30 for lunch and gasbagging. If you have the time would like to join us.
