Did all Marauder come with aluminum driveshafts?
While up under the car today getting the gears done I noticed mine was aluminum after my mechanic pointed it out. He wasn't 100% sure if Marauders came with them. I'm not 100% either

One marked po po is supposed to be stronger metal matrix shaft, although I relieved a couple of those from duty!

Lol ...well I'm in need of one now. My stock one has a very slight bend. He put the car in Drive and as it turned I seen it very faintly. I don't have a monster under the good I should be ok with a po po one

Maybe it's still up for grabs? -> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83906
The Metal Matrix (MMX) driveshafts, are superior to the stock MM driveshafts, and were only made for a few years in Crown Vic Law Enforcement applications.
MMX is a more rigid driveshaft that carries a higher crtical speed rating.
Good luck!
Mike.
How in the hell did you bend the shaft?
That's What she said!!!

Check your local wrecking yards. Just for giggles I searched and found 3 PI aluminum drive shafts within 10 miles of me. I have been lucky with no vibrations so I haven't worried about it.

I don't know. It doesn't vibrate at all but you do very faintly see it as it turns.

You know how much they were?

Look for a place that repairs drive shafts.... usually a place that repairs heavy trucks. They should be able to straighten / balance it.

I had Scientific straighten one I bent! Then I bent it again! Don't waste your time and money!

I got one. At least that's what Ford says. I took it out of a PI. Ford says they only offered a steel shaft and a MMX shaft for the PI's that year, it ain't steel. But some forums say it is not a MMX. I don't know for sure but if you need it we'll work something out.

The MMX came in ALL '00 CVPI's IIRC but I may not be. But I'm pretty sure that's the one year they all had MMX. The other years it was either aluminum or MMX and its supposed to be really hard to tell them apart

My '99 MMX CVPI driveshaft suits me just fine.

Interesting.
Where I work - Dana Corporation Driveshaft Division, steel applications require straightening the driveshaft to a max. T.I.R of .015 at the linear center of the tube, and under .010 on both ends. (Specifications may vary)
The aluminum applications cannot be straightened. The max T.I.R is in the neighborhood of~.050 at the linear center of the tube and ~.015 on both ends.
If these specifications are not met, the driveshaft is scrapped.
At our plant, both steel and aluminum driveshafts are dynamically balanced at 3,000 RPM
Mike.
**Fact: When we built the driveshafts for the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute (4WD), this 2 piece steel CV shaft was dynamically balanced at 4,000 RPM.**

This was a steel drive shaft I had in a 81 Malibu I had a built 406 small block with a 9inch rear end, couldn't keep a shaft in until I went aftermarket
