Is this KB still around? Is it or was it a numbered car?

Mike missed a deer and pinballed off trees. :( That was my first "Marauder Meet". More like a funeral. I ran grill that day and met some great guys! On my car I still have his hood, two rims with one brand new tire (used as full spare) another spare (non polished) part of his rearend...

We saw this car several times and drove in it when Joe was the owner. It was #15 but not a signature edition.

Only numbers 1 through 10 were Signature Edition cars, but it's important to note that these are not the order in which they were built. For example, my KB is #10, the last number in the "Signature Edition" series, but it was the fourteenth car built. That's because I reserved #10 in February 2003 (while Kenny & Co. were building #7, I think), but it took a while before a silver birch became available for conversion.
I also had a chance to confirm with Steve Babcock at MMX some confusion about the painting of '03s. It was originally thought that the painting process was changed in 2004, because the guys at St. Thomas liked building the car so much but didn't like the way they were painted, and the process was changed for the start of the '04 model year.
What actually happened was that, when silver birch cars were starting production in April 2003, the painting was whacked. Metal didn't match urethane parts, etc., and the first 14 silver cars went to the crusher because of the bad paint (as weird as that sounds, apparently it was cheaper than stripping-and-repainting them). Between April and late May the painting process was refined and installed at St. Thomas in late May for production going forward (and so production of silver birch could resume). Cars painted from late May 2003 going forward all benefitted from the new painting process.
What I don't know (nor does anyone else, it seems), it whether those 14 cars led to a gap in serial number count. By that I mean no one knows whether there are 14 serial numbers assigned to cars that ended up in the crusher. If serial numbers aren't attached until later in the process, maybe not, but no one remembers.
Another piece of Marauder lore for the history books.

OK Mark I'll one up your new found info by asking if those 14 cars that went to the crusher were assigned vin#'s are there really 14 less MM's in the official count? Making the real # 11,038 or would the real number have been 11,066?

My former SB had a March 03 date hand marked in the inner deck lid as I recall. Computertech has the car now.

Good question. And possibly 14 fewer 03 SBs (403 vs. 417).

I don't have any paint issues with mine...I do have a very, very small spot on the trunk lid near the reverse lights/license plate area where the paint is peeling off...hasn't gotten any worse since I bought her...

I think we need an "ask Steve" section. Who do we put in charge of setting that up, Dan, Mary, other?

A big +1 on this ^^^^^^.
Just gotta make sure he visits the site regularly or ???? could be up in limbo for a while.
Good idea and glad you brought this up.
I noticed that the other site Motor City.......has a forum for questions for Steve but has not been updated recently.
Hope the Mods will make the additon! :)

Could there be an open "Chat", say, quarterly or 2x/year? We don't want to kill the guy. He's trying to retire.
Also, what will we talk to him about at MV's if we get answers throughout the year?
