Last night I drove the marauder into town and when I got home I noticed it had started making a ticking noise. I popped the hood and it coming from the center of the motor.Im thinking its the timing chains and the guided have worn out. Any thoughts?

Not enough info for a meaningful reply.

Can you make a video of the sound?

It just rolled 91k as far as I know the oil was changed regularly. Its an early 03 also

I'd take off the cam covers off and look at the tensioners.

It just rolled 91k as far as I know the oil was changed regularly. IF the oil was changed regularly, that's way too early to have worn guides and the chains almost never wear at all. Many here have 150-200,000 miles on the originals.

Could be a belt idler or a bad alternator bearing...pull the serpentine off and see if the noise continues.

You could put a hose to your ear to isolate the sound.

I use a 3' long screw driver.

Also got a Mechanic's Stethoscope at Harbor Freight. Not bad for $3.99!

I'd check the idler, alternator, water pump and tensioner.

Not to go against the grain but we just pulled down a customer's motor with 130,000 miles on it. You can not believe what the timing chain followers looked like. They were on borrowed time for sure.

I will post pictures later, but yes, the noise can be coming from the chains.

at 91,000 miles it can be the cassettes worn out. It is rare but not unheard of. If indded it is noise from chains do it right and get the complete from FRPP M-6004-A464.
