View Full Version : Paint problem - back bumper cover

The paint is flaking off the top surface of my rear bumper in little chips, maybe 1/16" wide, so I made an appointment with the dealer body shop and went in this morning. Bottom line is they are repainting the bumper cover under warranty ($320), but the body shop mgr. claimed that it's "environmental" damage, caused by acid rain, and that type of problem is only covered for 1 year after purchase (he fudged it). He also said the plastic parts tend to do that before the metal.
I'm glad he's getting it done under warranty, but I have to say this doesn't say good things about Ford's quality and warranty coverage. Should the paint be falling off a one-year-old, well cared for, waxed, and garaged car? Doesn't seem right to me.

Hey Mark....
There are several TSB's out on the paint problem.....
TSB #'s:
02-16-03
02-16-7
03-10-1
Make them aware that you know this.....especially if they give you any slack about it!!
They can pull the TSB's by using your VIN#. Don't let them tell you they can't either because that's b.s.!
Hope this helps!
BTW....my car is going into the shop for the same reasons!

Are the Marauder TSBs posted somewhere on the site? Also, where is the FAQ these days?

I don't think they are posted here (?) I did a search but didn't get any TSB's for paint.
From what I hear, you can go to the Ford website and they have link for TSB's.......... I tried, but to no avail:(
You're best bet would probably be to call your dealer and have them pull either the TSB numbers I gave you, -OR- they can pull ALL the TSB's for your vehicle by using your VIN#.

Mark, I am glad they agreed to honor warranty, take a real good look at the rest of your car, the dealer is not doing you a favor, you are recieving what you are entitled to. It is unfortunate that some of our members had to fight to recieve warranty coverage, and some have been denied.
The acid rain story is a popular one among dealers, I heard it before. I suppose that it means that the warranty on your paint is void if your car makes contact with the atmosphere.
Here is my story in case you are interested: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7487&highlight=repaint
Best of luck.

Even if you don't wax it the paint should stay on the car.
Here's a test:
How many of you buy a car if the manufacturer told you that if didn't wax it the paint would fall off within two years? I wouldn't. Don't let them get away with this.
