Hi , I am installing a 2004 engine in my 2003 MM, Any suggestions or help is welcome and appreciated. I took the torque converter off, and am having a time getting the engine to sit down properly, while lining up all the bolt holes and the four nuts for the T/C Thanks

Get the convertor bolts as lined up as possible. Have the engine hoist let most of the weight rest on the frame and bell housing. (I remember filing down the edges of the two metal pins to line up the engine to the bellhousing too). I got under the car at this point and literally muscled the trans and engine together. You could hear when it fit right together. It really helps to have someone else help at this point. For safety reasons too! :D

Dropping the motor in is like putting on socks! Just drop it in , the trans may have to be moved around a bit with a pry bar, once you line up the bell housing to the motor you can go underneath the car and spin the converter to line up with the flex plate

I have done many an engine swap in my day...forget lining it all up from the top. Drop the engine down on the mounts, go underneath and use a pry bar to persuade the trans and the engine to line up. Much easier from down below...of course we are on a hoist!

That only applys to aftermarket TC. Factory ones have bolts built in them.

First you have to make sure the converter is "all the way" in the transmission. This may take some time but if not done the pump will be damaged.

Raise the trans a little with a jack for easier mating and spin the converter and flex plate both to 12/3/6/9 positions. Boom, she'll slide her own self on. Also, it is very handy to have an engine leveler, but not needed.
