i was going through my service manual today and inside the front cover someone hand wrote "at time of purchase, of 6-7-2002, at 11:55 AM, 14760 coulon, clinton township michigan, this is the first 2003 mercury marauder delivered anywhere. took delivery at stu evans ford.
i find this rather interesting. although it doesnt really matter to me if i have the first delivered marauder or not, it would still be interesting to find out. when i purchased the car from the original owner he did say he had the first marauder. i thought to myself "yea right". maybe he was right. whats the best way to find this out? go to the dealer?

What is the VIN? Contact FPG and see if they can help you trace it down. Link here >>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57772

You should be pretty close .... X609228 may have beat you to the number one position in the production models for 2003 starting the "609" series. The "600" and "602" were 4PP Pre-Production cars.

Who did you buy it from?

Earlier than mine at 272 and #187. I'd take a guess your MM is in the 130ish range. Post up when you find out then make sure to post your info in A.D.A.M.s MM registry Sticky.

He was the original owner and as far as he knew, he had the first marauder that was delivered to any dealership in the country. He was in love with the car. He had news articles and all kinds of literature with it. He didn't have any proof so I took it with a grain of salt, but he swore by his info.

Love a good Marauder story.
Also, let's see some pics! How many miles on the car now?
You'll no doubt find this interesting... Looks like yours is #2 or #3...

This is turning out to very fun and fulfilling for me. This has been my dream car since I was 12 years old when it was first released. ( yes I'm 21) I think its super cool that I have such an early car. I bought it with 68,000 in march of 2012. And I put it into storage in October with 77,000. I will post up some pics.

According to the other thread I don't have the first sold. It sounds like kirk does. But it seems I have a very early car. I will wait for the facts. It's still fun to find out

You have number 2 or 3 and no way to know which. There were 2 cars sold on 6/7/2002. Mine was sold on 6/6.

Are you going to break the news to the original owner?
lilmarauder
01-28-2013, 05:36 AM
Haha. No I don't wanna break his heart. I'll let it be. He was in love with it. I Honestly don't know why he sold it. Especially for the price I paid.

You know you can call FPG and they'll tell you the number over the phone. You don't have to wait for the cert to find out
Just to throw more at this, there was at least 1 PP4 car delivered on 6/1/2002 through a dealership. So the previous discussion applies only to the regular production cars.

Whats the difference from a pre production and a regular production kirk? I did not know i could call. I thought you had to pay for the certificate to get your info. I thought it was a catch. I'll call them.

Whats the difference from a pre production and a regular production kirk?
Preproduction cars are the engineering vehicles built to test builds and assembly lines. There are different levels, some are destroyed and some are sold, depends on their development level. Production vehicles are those built during the normal production assembly process that starts on "Job 1" day.
None of the PP cars were included in the sales info I have.

Cars do not always go down the line according to the VIN sequence. This has been true for decades. I've seen the same thing many times with the '63 models. I know of a '63 Marauder with a lower VIN than mine that was built 5 days after mine. Both were built in St. Louis. This is even more the case when other assembly plants are involved. '63 Mercs built in Wayne were typically built much later (when comparing VINs) than the cars in St. Louis. I believe that the VIN has much more to do with orders than production, though I can't say for sure.

^^^^ I'm pretty sure that's the case, Kirk. IIRC, VINs are assigned in order sequence, not in order of production.
