Well Folks.....after 245K miles my oil filter adapter decided to start leaking oil so I did a search to see what everyone was doing about it??

Most of you simply replace the gasket but that dumps the coolant and you risk oil contamination....so I read a little more until I found a response form GOOD OLE Zack!!

He said in every case he simply removed the oil filter and tightened the 4 bolts holding the adapter to the block and NEVER had a recurring oil leak and that the coolant never leaks!!:bandit:

I did just that and so far the oil leak appears to be stopped!!!:D

If any of you communicate with Zack please tell him THANKS for me!!:bows:

Let me go check the bed.

Nope, he escaped again.

Tightening mine anymore than they were would have resulted in SNAP. At least I tried.

Well.......KUDOS rescinded!!:depress:

The oil leak is very minor and after I washed it off it took several days to return!!:argue:

I got a new gasket today and when I saw it I immediately discovered why you cannot simply tighten the bolts to stop the leak!!:shake: There are metal spacers inside each bolt hole in the gasket so you cannot crush it but just so far......thus a new gasket is necessary to fix it!!

The car is in the garage waiting to be fixed tomorrow or Wednesday......stay tuned!!

No need for profanity......it's really a pretty easy job if you are NA??

I had to remove all of my ProCharger plumbing on the driver's side to get to it and after almost 8 years it was NO FUN!!:argue::mad2:

The seals around the oil passages become brittle with heat and therein lies the problem!! Perhaps the new stuff is better long term!!??

The best part is the way you can stabilize the gasket on the adapter since that has been a problem in the past......the bolt holes are slightly smaller than the bolts so the bolts and gasket stay put when assembling and re-installing the adapter!!:bows:

Get a new gasket and you will see why simply tightening WILL NOT WORK!!:shake:

GOOD LUCK!!
