so im glad other members are having the same problem as me with there cars not starting sometimes and everything works but car will not crank or make no noises...

when car will not start just shake the shifter it will eventually crank right up no problems

so problem ended up being the range selector switch a super easy fix and will take me bout 10 min to install and cost bout 85 bucks new from ford

my car has even been to ford for this happening before i figured out shaking the shifter it would start and when the ford tech gets to look at it the darn car fires right up....

would any1 have one of these laying arounf they are willing to part with for a couple bucks i dont see why i couldnt buy a used one and save some money...

I highly suggest you just buy a new one as this has been a known part to fail for many years now. Maybe check Tousley Ford or rock auto?

Or just get rid of the damn thing like I did? 😉

Or save yourself time and money and just make sure when putting it in PARK that you hear the click. A new one or slightly used will just wear down again over time.

When the shifter doesn't fully seat in PARK it won't engage the Park Neutral Safety Switch which only allows the vehicle to be started in Park or Neutral and not in and reverse or forward gear.

Oh there will be. But I don't recommend it. (Stick with the T56) and save the aggravation. I am one of the few who prefer the difficult route and don't fear grinders and welding.

Either way, they share some key parts that should help everyone out. Just hope I don't miss my deadline and have to stop and start up again Sunday night after KY! Remember, I have two other commitments i cant speak of before that time or this would not be an issue. Customers first.

Can the range selector switch cause the car to jump into neutral occasionally and back into gear when you first get going?

Still chasing this problem down. Pulled the B & M pan again today and the filter was all loosey goosey. Bought another one and it fits tight. I am so sick of this crap......

I checked out Rockauto and Tasca, no range selector switches listed. Google not much help either. Anyone care to share a linky?

No it can't Tom. All it does is relay information to the ECM what gear you are in, and also to tell the back up lights to come on when needed.

Perhaps I should have said I have never heard of an issue regarding what you describe or one capable of your symptoms. I've been wrong before.. But only once. :D turns out midgets do not like to be called baby McNuggets. Who knew?
