My RPM tach works now and then...when it wants too! Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there a cable attached that needs to be fixed? As Marauders become less and less, there are less and less parts available.

No fix other than a gauge cluster swap....ive been patiently awaiting for over a year now.

A new cluster fixed mine.
But it took 2 years to find one with comparable miles on the odo

Mine has gotten a little "twitchy" its in really small amounts though. Only at idle. I'm very OCD so I notice it. However over the past month or so its been 100% fine.

If that ever happens again, send the cluster to me I can put whatever miles you want on it.

Maybe I should send you my original and you can figure out what's up with the tach?

Tach on my 2004 is just now doing this. Either it works fine, doesn't work at all, or shoots all the way to the right and stays there. Is a cluster swap the only fix?

Don't know if this question has been answered already and I don't feel like doing 'research' to find out at the moment...
Are our gauge clusters Marauder-specific? I would tend to think yes since it has 'MARAUDER' stamped on it, but would like confirmation from the gurus...

I predicted a massive barking of your back tires at about 42.7 miles an hour when that shifts, lol.

Same here in case FBM gets backed up I can help with it as well.

My two-cents: All things being equal, an intermittant tach fluctuation or non-functioning is possibly a precursor to a failed or failing crankshaft position sensor and the PCM failing to receive a signal momentarily (nano-seconds) but recovering before presenting other issues or causing the engine to shut down.

That might be a possibility. How would that account for swapping out the instrument cluster and the new tach works fine?

Or in my case, to where it is in-active and a light tap awakens it :argue:

Same symptom mine had..
And I changed the crank sensor when the Aluminator went in.
Wasn't the sensor

As I stated in my original post, intermittant tach operation may possibly be linked to the CKP sensor. If replacing the cluster eliminates the problem completely it is more likely a defect in the cluster and/or the its printed circuit board. My reply is not necessarily the only answer or even a correct assumption, but it is something to consider and/or eliminate as part of a diagnostic tree. The sensor may be good, but the exciter ring on the crank may be slightly damaged affecting the Hall Effect signal to the PCM. I am new to this vehicle, but have experienced problems, especially when the sensor is below the water pump and the water pump begins to weep. This, again, may be mixing apples and oranges, and it is just something to consider before going through more labor intensive and expensive repairs without knowing the exact nature of the defect. Good luck on identifying the exact nature of the failure.

Ummm, I have an extra RPM mechanism, I don't need it. Actually I have all the guts from a cluster with like 71,000 miles on it. If your interested? It's left over parts from my cluster project. I'm doing. Shoot me an offer...

Had same problem on my 03'. a little tap on the cluster and it worked. Really bugged me tho.

And a good solid fist pound on the dash will bring mine back to life.

Been working for me too, but I'm getting really tired of smacking the dash. Afraid I'm gonna warp or crack it one of these days. I figure I'll send it in to be repaired soon since I have the Ford premium extended warranty.

Have been experiencing all the same problems. :depress: I’ve gotten to where I try not to look at it. It doesn’t appear to affect the performance and it doesn’t keep me from :burnout:. Almost a game now to see if I can bury the needle on the right side. Guess I’ll start looking for a replacement dash cluster and send it to fastblackmerc for an odometer adjustment.
Come to think of it, electric problems seem to have plagued me all my life. I must have done something to PO the electronic gods.

I now use a scangauge2, and highly recommend it. It will tell you more than you need to know about the car also....ex. tranny was running a little hot, installed a tranny cooler and its perfect now.
