You may want to look at the Bob is the oil guy site for some advice. Some use Auto-Rx, but opinions vary. That looks pretty bad.

Don't use any cleaners. It'll drain right down into the block. You can use a detergent in the current oil per instructions and change the oil. If you just keep changing the oil every couple thousand miles for a few changes, it'll clean it out.

Watch out putting the PS cam cover back on. It's such a tight fit that my rubber valve cover gasket kept getting pushed to the side and didn't seal. Found out when oil started pouring onto the exhaust manifold! PITA!

I'm the second owner. The original owner didn't keep up with the regular maintainance of this car. I bought it at 80xxx mi for $7,600 runs like a champ. But rest asure she's in good hands now. Btw this car still had the transmission plug the left the factory. I found out when I service the trans shorty after purchasing and switch to mobile 1 full synthetic. Ill try a few trick I learned from a buddy at ford.

Looks like a nice car (SB with black interior is my dream car, after all), it just sucks that the previous owner did such a crap job on the maintenance. That pic I posted was at 108k miles. Keep up with the oil changes, it'll probably be okay.

I showed the pic to a Former ford tech about the gunky valves he agreed it was bad but not the worst. His advice was to add a quart of transmission fluid a week before my oil change, he says it will loosen the into the filter helping to clean and restore, get regular oil changes full synthetic every 6,000 mi and ill be good

....I've never heard of trans fluid being used in the crankcase. I'm not sure I'd do it. I think I'd just use cheap conventional and change every 1500-2000 for a while. Then again, maybe that wouldn't do anything.

I'd b\never run tranny fluid in the crankcase.

I would run about a 1/2 can of Seafoam to the oil, the other half through the vacuum line to the brake booster, run for an hour or so then change the oil and filter.

+1 on the Seafoam - that's actually what I used on my car at 95k.

Did this cause a smoke screen to come out the back of your vehicle?!!!

I would gamble with a pint or two of diesel fuel in the oil before anything else.

I've read about the diesel fuel trick. Have you tried this?

Transmission fluid is about the same as Marvel Mystery oil - I've used both many times ussually a few hundred miles before changing oil/filter. Never had a problem and cleaned out many hydraulic lifters (stopped them from "tapping").

Negative as I have never had too. But yes, I would try it in my own car.

Why would Justbob pull and take apart a whole engine just to change a valve cover gasket? Seems like a radical move just to stop oil leaking. Must have gone to a public school or laying, opps, playing around with Joe.
