Went to Test-N-Tune at State Capitol today. Gorgeous day, 60*, 50%, blue sky and no traffic on the 1.5 hour drive!:)
I see 30 late model Corvettes in a line heading the other way. Corvettes high tailing it the other way is a good sign.
I pull into State Capitol and there are a lot of Mustang GT500, ZO6, Camaro, Challenger, GTO, ect. I walk both launch pads looking for the groove, water box reference and sighting the track. I watch several cars run and they are hooking and going straight.
I pull into the staging lanes and lower the rear tire pressure to 16psi. I line up next to a moded Mustang GT.
I go around the water box, back up and wait for the signal. The official gives me the signal to pull up and then do a burn out. I jam on the brake and stab the throttle until I see white smoke in both fender wells in the side view mirrors. I then let up on the brake until I go forward several feet and let off the throttle, creeping up to stage. When the first lite comes on I wait for the Mustang GT to pre stage. I then stage, raise the RPMs and stare at the third light.
As soon as the third lite is on I hammer the throttle. I am ahead by .445 at the start! He gains .103 at the 60’, at the 330’ I gain .067 and at the 1/8 I gain another .087. I can no longer see him. I finish .6636 ahead, 11.824@116.32. The Marauder has MAULED the Mustang!!!:banana2:
I pull into the staging lanes and lower the rear tire pressure to 16psi. I line up next to a moded GTO.
At the start I am ahead by .316 at the start! I gain .047 at the 60’, at the 330’ I gain another .399. I can no longer see him. I finish 1.5496 ahead, 11.813@117.03. The Marauder has squished the GTO like a bug on a windshield!
I pull into the staging lanes and I line up next to a Monte Carlo that came on a trailer and it is not street legal. I know he is probably faster and I will need a good burn out and R/T to Win.
At the start I am ahead by .106! I gain .072 at the 60’, at the 330’ I lose .013, .0998 at the 1/8. I can see him gaining and .161 at the 1,000’. I finish .0717 behind. My time is 11.820 @117.24.
I watch a few runs and walk the staging lanes. I get compliments on the Marauder from a number of drivers. I see a friend who used to run a Cobra, http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?p=233936#post23 3936 black99lightnin, and now runs a GT500. He has on Nitto 555’s and thinks he may run a 10.9. We both discussed how we now run them the way we drive them. Too much of a hassle to bring tires to the track or take the spare out or anything out of the car.
I decide to fill up with air and head back.
PS- A week ago as a joke the wife put those family stick people decal on the rear window. I have not had time to take it off, now I think I will never have time to take it off!;)
