View Full Version : Problems With Key Fob

Had a Marauder owner at work contact me yesterday with an unusual question.

He was recently in an accident that required replacing D/S door, and he tells me that the sending unit for the remote door opener was replaced as well.

Since then, the key fob only works when he's one or two feet away from the car.

The Ford dealership has tried new fobs, and three different sending units, no luck. The dealership is telling him that the original unit was Marauder-specific and they no longer make them?

Anybody ever hear of anything like this before, or any tips on resolving?

Salvage yard may be your best bet. The door control module is in the drivers door.

Time for new battery in key fob?

DDM or driver door module. I couldn't imagine a reason for it being "Marauder" specific. It really wouldn't matter if it was, the shop that fixed the car is supposed to make it right.

Did his keyless entry code change? If not, then it is probably the original module, unless the shop added his keyless code to the new module.

I'd pull the door panel and check the module and connections first.

I think the antenna for those is in the DDM, but double check. MY old '92 MGM had an external antenna that ran across the dash and had horrible distance. I removed it and ran it up the A pillar greatly increasing the distance.

Just got off the phone with 03mmmonroe, he's thinking connections and/or antenna issues as well, and confirmed that there's nothing "Marauder specific" about the DDM.

Thanks for the replies, guys, will pass along to my co-worker.

Typical dealer lie because they haven't figured out how to fix it, MGM & CV use same module in '03 & '04...

Yeah, sounded weird right from the start, and Russ confirmed that.
