Since last summer I've had a problem at idle that's really bugging me.
When the car is in gear in either direction and moving the idle speed will drop and then pick up again. Each time it does it it makes a sound like a dog in the distance barking once each time the idle speed changes (yeah,I know, but that's exactly what it sounds like). Otherwise the car runs fine
I figure that must be some kind of valve or solenoid opening or closing.
I've already replaced the IAC with a brand new one, cleaned the daylights out of the MAF and even tried another IAC and a second sparkling clean MAF,to no avail.
It's getting pretty annoying and a real pita when I'm trying to park in a tight parallel spot or back out of a space in a crowded lot with people walking around and I'm trying to back out blind with an SUV on either or both sides of me,I don't want to bump somebody's car or knock someone down.

Could it be the variable assist for the power steering going bad?

Did you use a Motorcraft IAC? I have had a lot of odd behavior out of aftermarket IACs.

I didn't use a Motorcraft IAC,maybe I should try cleaning the daylights out of the original one, although I couldn't visually detect anything wrong with it.
If it is a gennie Ford part I may try cleaning and re installing it.
I've read that cleaning them is usually only a temporary solution but I guess it could clarify things if I try that.
