I am currently in the process of gathering info for installation of a Gear Vendors overdrive into my DBP. My plan is to run 4.56 gears and be able to still drive it on the highway. Gear Vendors tells me it will be like having 3.55s with the double OD engaged.

I can't find any info of an install to a 4R70W. GV says they have done a few marauders, anyone here have one installed?

could they take my 3.55's and get me 30mpg:banana:

3.55's become 2.76 RAR in OD mode, might be able to hit 30...

Big bucks!

I'm figuring about 4500 until I get the rear built(already have the parts), new driveshaft and the miscellaneous stuff I'm not thinking of. I know it's not cheap, or the route most here would go, but what isn't expensive for our cars?

I am in SoCal today. I drove to El Cajon to Gear Vendors. I spent about an hour talking to Nick, my tech support contact and grandson of the founder. He gave me a shop tour, showed me projects they were working on, and at the end of the tour I pulled the trigger.

We both agreed a manual activation with a simple push button is the way to go. My next move is to take off my tail housing to count the teeth on the speedo sensor gear, he mentioned that 03s and 04s are different. Once I count the teeth I should have the unit about two weeks.

My main reason for using it is that I want to run 4.56 gears, but also want to drive it on the highway. With the OD engaged the engine toms will be like I have 3.55s

Minor setback today, I went to count the teeth for the VSS on the output shaft and it appears our marauders don't use them. From what I could find, ford stopped using them in '99. I guess I'll just have to wait until Monday to see what GV had to say.

VSS was last used in 2002, in 2003+ its all in the PCM.

Completely irrelevant but my research came up with the magic number of 6 pulses for the 4r70 and 12 for the Tremec I installed. Sure enough, my speedo was exactly double and was easily recalibrated on the dyno.

Also in 6th gear which is a 0.50 ratio my RPM's are dead on 2,050 @ 80 with 4.30's.

Not sure if any of this will help, but maybe for a comparison.

It's actually 14 speeds (first gear TC is always locked) , if you consider the TC lock and unlock in every gear except first.

Can't wait to see this! I want this mod, then I can get 4.30's... Also because the factory driveshaft will have to be shortened, there will be less of an issue with drive line harmonics at high speed.

Maybe. Maybe worse. It does alter the pinion angle, but only slightly.
Does it have a fixed flange or slip joint?

Your (steel?) shaft is shorter now, do you get any vibrations in 3rd or 4th at 5,000ish? GV uses a slip yoke. I noticed that Denny's Driveshaft has yokes for the GV setups.

The yoke is a slip joint, and if anything I think I'm going to have to space the trans/GV up due to how low my car is.

I'm working on my revised intercooler plumbing right now, hopefully ill start the GV install this weekend.

I was going to start the install tonight, but I looked closer at the adapter and I was not happy with it, I emailed pictures to GV then called them to follow up. They checked the 4 they had on the shelf and they looked the same. Gear Vendors is a really small family owned company, most of their employees have been there for years, so it wasn't just some salesman.

They technically do not make a Marauder kit. No one make an adapter for the 4R70W. They get a 4x4 adapter from Advance Adapters and machine it down.

I don't think it was going to break, but my main issue was that the top and bottom holes should have never been drilled. They are not usable and they are both through structural ribs, if they wouldn't have been drilled I would have kept it and lived with the thin walls of the bolt holes. Its a machined fit from the adapter to the OD unit, so with the 4 bolts it wouldn't have gone anywhere. It just looked horrible.

I have experience with Gear Vendors typical applications = GM car with TH400

High quality, does not break, good support. I've seen 800+rwhp run through without issue. If it comes down to a custom adapter to a trans not past prototype stage, not fair to criticise, really.
Aftermarket typically sucks in every way, in my 35 years of building experience.
Expect every part you buy to need fabrication, modification or something. If it works first time - woo-hoo!!

these are an over and under drive.
In manual mode, you can be in 1st gear on your tranny, shift into OD on the gear vender, then into 2nd gear on your tranny, into OD on the vendor etc. It ain't easy split shifting a fast car, nor needed. In auto mode, it will go into OD after your tranny has finished shifting and reaching a preset mph. go to the website and read up.
Sweet set up.
