Going to replace the CKP in Mary's car. FSM says the A/C compressor needs to be removed and the lines need to be evacuated and disconnected to do that.
Someone please tell me it can be done without having to actually disconnect the A/C lines.

According to the shop manual it's located near the alternator. Maybe beneath it or the passenger side of it.
Can't say I've done it on a Marauder, but you should be able to just unbolt the compressor and move it far enough out of the way w/o having to evacuate the system and disconnect the lines.

It mounts in the side of the timing cover, down low on the passenger side. Even if the A/C compressor needs to be removed, I'm pretty sure you can leave all the lines attached and just swing it out of the way.

Hey Bob,
Get ahold of Dan as I am quite certain his wrench replaced this on his MM not very long ago.
You got his numbers.

You could also try calling Tipton Ford @ (765) 675-8777 and ask for Mike (Dan's wrench) in Service.

I had a 1995 CVPI that had the same issue. It ended up being a broken PCM wire in the loom along the rt upper frame rail.

I did it last month to change the Cranks Sensor. Unbolt the compressor, move it over and there is tons of room.

Thanks everyone! :)

It's 4 bolts to remove the compressor from the cover and the engine block. I had to pull it out of the way when I did my headers.

Like others said, it is easy to move the a/c compressor out of the way. I doubt that installing a new CPS will fix your issue. It certainly won't hurt anything and it does help eliminate one item.
Suggest that you trace the rear engine wiring carefully in the known problem areas.
I had issues with EGR tubing melting the harness when I bought my car. Previous owner installed the Trilogy incorrectly.

UPDATE
Just changed the CKP this afternoon. Too soon to tell if that fixes the issue, but it wasn't as bad as I thought to replace. Not a barrel of laughs doing it on my back on ramps, but definitely easier than the FSM says.

Ratfarts. New CKP didn't fix the problem.
Phoebe now has a new tune from Mo's with the I/M monitors left active so hopefully she will throw a code that will be helpful...

Thanks, Marty. :D
Looking through the wiring diagram, there's a second connector involved with the CKP that I hadn't noticed before, so I'm-a try that first, but depending on what (if any) code she now sets (was P0320 before) I may have to start hand-tracing the wiring.
