It has been a great first week with my 04 DTR. Had a 944 run away from me and I was at a stop light. Then today, I seriously do not know what came over me.....I was sitting next to a sheriff's deputy at a stop light and I winked at him.....he kept looking at my car what was I supposed to do??? I guess I am not too sure I am good at making friends.....
My Rear cats are off.....I love the sound and better performance. I gotta get a new exhaust complete front to back...the factory stuff is sad. I need the quitest muffler possible....usually run Flowmaster 40's on my FE powered trucks but there is no way I can run them on my 04DTR, I wear a tie to work everyday and gotta keep it old man like around my world. I will do my tune then too.
?? Suggestions for most peformance while keeping her as quiet as possible?? I won't pull the trigger on this until May. It will take me that long to decide exactly what do. Headers / mufflers / tune. Thanks!

If you like the sound why replace the OEM? It flows fairly well from the factory. The choke point is the mid-pipe before the mufflers. You could get that resized to the factory 21/4" (I believe) and you would have a good DD exhaust.
There's a pretty good article from a magazine that tell all about it. Perhaps someone has a quick link to it and will post.

Magnaflows are pretty quiet as far as aftermarket mufflers go, but I think Mr. Man is right.
I would expand upon it by saying either remove the resonators frmo the exhaust tips or get res-delete tips and swap them on. If that's not loud enough, then maybe step up to magnaflows.

Look at the Stainless Works stuff. I can offer you a pretty good deal on their set ups shipped to your door.
They make full systems from headers to tips and you can catted or off-road (no cats).

I'm going different. I wanna go with a set of Borla mufflers. The flowmasters I have now I'm not too happy with.
Get a long tube header setup that bolts to your stock H pipe. That will add plenty of performance and keep the quiet factory sound with some attitude.

Why don't you like like your flowmasters?

At certain RPM ranges I swear I hear every interior panel vibrate. It's way too much and I guess I'm getting older that waking up everyone within a 1/4 mile radius isn't fun anymore. ;)

Welcome to my world for the past 2 years.
The shifter gear indicator plastic piece and the bottom B pillar piece vibrate the most on my car. At certain rpms whatever change I have in my cup holders clings and clanks, it got to the point I had to not put any loose pocket change in there anymore because it was annoying.
Once I do headers I will probably take the Aeros off and put on some Jones Full Boar mufflers (quiet like Magnaflow but flow better).

Cobra headers and MM headers are not the same thing, especically if long tubes.
Also, X pipe won't fit without modification, the crossmember location is different on the two cars.

Right now Im running the stock exhaust with flowmaster delta 50 2.25" mufflers and I get compliments all the time from my tie-wearing co-workers. I drive customers around once in a while and every one of them compliments how good the car sounds. The ONLY complaint I have is a slight drone at 1500 rpm ish. Once past that, the drone is gone and everything is perfect.
Stainless works LT's are going on as soon as the weather warms up so we'll see what happens with the sound...

Install CV vibration dampers and that drone will be GONE!!!

Really? The sound I hear sounds like a resonance/standing waves inside the passenger compartment. Not a vibrating sound or feeling. I would LOVE for that sound to be gone. I'll pick up a vibe damper and weld it in when I do my LT's and custom midpipe. Hey, it cant hurt. The worst it will do is add 3 lbs to this land yacht.

Sound is a vibration and these are not welded in......bolted to the down pipe/H-pipe flanges on each side......see photo!! :D

That is an interesting point. If that is really the choke point (and having crawled under the car a bit, it looks suspect) that would be a nice low budget improvement.
And for those of us who don't want to make the car louder, even better that it keeps the stock mufflers. Rib leavin's on the shirt or not.

Anyone ever use "Thunderbolt" mufflers? The exhaust shop told me they were Flowmaster knock-offs. They sound really good, no "drone" to speak of. A little louder than I would like, but I am getting used to it! Years ago, I used my truck for some dyno testing at a friends new exhaust and dyno shop. He compared several different mufflers. It seemed (back then 10 years ago) that the Dynomax flowed the best compared to Flowmaster and one other (can't remember brand).
