View Full Version : No More Rear Bumpers?
I got hit (again) by an uninsured driver in the passenger side rear quarter panel. Fender can be banged out, but needs new bumper. Ford body shop says that there are NO MORE of these bumpers available. Said that he's trying to find one from a bumper dealer they use.
Has anyone heard of this? If this is true, no one here better get rear ended ever again.
If there are bumpers available, where? I'd like to give the shop a source that they obviously don't have.

Tell me they have an updated their website.....Is this just a decoy?
I've been gone too long! Haven't heard about this problem during my absence.
What are people doing who need new ones? Driving around without a bumper? I can't be the only one who has needed one.

Have a good friend that works at LKQ and he can get used, new, and reman..LKQ IS HUGE and has a national locator. I asked him for a Marauder rear bumper.
He said there's a better chance of me getting him pregnant.
Good luck maybe a member here has one tucked away....idk

Yes spare rear bumpers are out their but it's gonna take a lot of coin to pry them out of the owners hands.
Wow. This is amazing to me. I know I can't be the only one here who has had rear bumper damage. Can't imagine a bunch of guys going around with duct tape holding their bumpers together! At least not the guys on this site!

Thanks. I'm waiting for the local guy to see if he locates one from his "bumper guy." Damn, it's easier finding replacement parts for a '57 Chevy!
Along with my extra floor mats sitting in a box at home, maybe I better find another bumper to hide in the attic.

Then again, they have little interest in limited-production cars.

Most of the used ones wound up on gramma's Grand Marquis making silly clones. When my '04 was damaged in the front, they paid a grand for a used, re-furbished one. Not a lot of these specific car parts out there.

When I got parts for our bodyshop we ran into a lot of that. Like the mustang bumpers would be smooth instead of saying MUSTANG...makes me want to put vic bumpers on my car and store my MM covers just in case! Well...this has to be good for the value of our cars anyway...

they could still make a knockoff without letters though, we'd just paint them on. hmm....
probably not enough dough in it though. i'm sure a mold would be pretty pricey to only sell what 60-100 a year

There is something fundamentally wrong with Ford ceasing production of replacement parts while wielding the copyright threat against those who would step in to fill the void.
I had a new Marauder rear bumper cover installed three years ago due to a minor rear-ender. The insurance company pitched a fit about buying a new one at the time. Glad I didn't let them slide, as apparently I'll never get another.

When my Marauder got rear-ended by some numb nut in a BIG Chevy truck, his insurance coughed up $1,400 for a new OEM bumper cover.
Now I wish i had paid the body shop for my damaged bumper cover, as it wasn't too bad and could have been heat welded/repaired....

^^^Make them with inserts that get glued into where it says Marauder. Then its different then the original yet people can just pull the inserts out of the Marauder part and have it look like original when its in their possession. Its not like it was planned that way to have them get pulled out or anything using cheap glue to hold them in

They could surely turn profit on a rear bumper since there is quite a lot of people who want a replacement. I know I would take one.
If people keep their mouths shut, they only sell to the marauder community and don't show pictures on their website then Ford won't ever know.
I would gladly buy an extra to keep for another rainy day. As a matter of fact, this morning my wife suggested to me that I search the junk yards for one to keep just in case. She knows that I intend to keep the car at least 5 more years, and for some reason I attract bad drivers.

Not to start this "elitist" thing again but,
This is exactly why I hate when people put "marauder" rear bumpers on beat up old crown vics when they find them in junkyards..etc. Oh you bought a 2000 p71, some 24s, and got a paint job... It will still never be a Marauder just give up and buy a real one.
This is where the frustration comes, which the CVN site failed to see with the other thread. To everyone else it may be an $8k ford..but let's be realistic, it is a special edition limited production car that we are enthusiasts of. I would not want to put just any old panther bumper on it because Ford stopped making them and do not allow anyone to reproduce them.
If an asshat were to rear end me..well may God help them.

Nope, they would slap on a standard CV bumper cover, or if you insisted,
look for a take-off junkyard Marauder bumper cover and make you read the fine print on your policy.
They are only required to make the car as close to original as possible.

IF we HAVE too then just the bumpers made with the word marauder embossed on it.
I know it not the "factory look" but we know if Ford gets wind of they will stop it and while we have some sharp people here I know think anyone is ready yo taake on Ford?
I would rather a bumper that does have marauder on it then no bumper at all or some makeshift bumper forced to fit my car.

Having worked in the injection molding and die cast industries, on the tooling side, for many years with Automotive suppliers from fuel system components to throttle bodies, valve bodies, steering wheel frames, airbag housings etc. chances are the molds are either destroyed/scrapped by now, are in some warehouse in Michigan or could still be collecting dust at Magma. I've seen many molds scrapped that were still good by GM, Chrysler, Ford. As far as a cheaper material used for Marauder covers vs CV..I'm not sure myself about that, but it could be that due to the embossing of "Marauder" in the rear portion they might have had to use a thinner wallstock to achieve the letters properly which would make them less durable.

I always ease the car behind me up to a red light or stop sign.
Also, I leave room between me and the car ahead of me at a stop in case I see that the car behind me isn't stopping soon enough: There's room to pull up.

That would be possible but the CV bumper has a molding indentation trim going across the whole width of the bumper about the height where the letters would be, and the bottom of the CV bumper has an outward design which our cars dont have.
