Actually, Doomie, I hear a whining noise whenever I hit the gas, wonder if maybe I got a problem, too? :dunno:

Nothing but helpful answers here in shop talk. :shake:

Is it interference through the radio or drivetrain related? My trans made a whining noise under throttle and a fluid and filter change helped.

Do you have any mods? Does it sound like a minor whistle?

I had this when I just had a tune and CAI and I just assumed it was the whistle of air through the CAI

I have boost now, so it's supposed to whine in that beautiful key of z for zoom

I get a whining sound at partial throtle around 2k rpm when then engine is cold only. Its only present under a very certain set of conditions for a short period of time. I attribute it to air whistling past the throtle plate, some sort of resonance.

Difficult to tell with this amount of information.

Does the noise increase in volume or pitch as speed increases? Is the noise modulated? Where does the noise seem to be coming from, inside or outside the car? Is the radio on?

Open the hood and with the motor running, rev the engine - Is the whine present?

Some times, rear tires set up a whine due to worn suspension parts or more likely rear axle bearings.

Drive shaft u-joints may be worn out. Transmission is a possibility for this whine.

How long after you acquired the car did you noticed this. Did you do anything to the car prior to the noise?

Is your girl friend or wife making the whinning noise as you accelerate due to fear of high speed?

You might have a car shop diagnose this.

Sounds like the rear seal is leaking or the rear axle is bad.

Sounds like you need a bottle of jack Daniels and a full tank and 3 mechanics to go for a little ride!!

It depends, I had a rear def leak on an old Marauder, reseated it for like 80, but the problem can back and it needed to be resealed as it was a little warped. IIRC that was like 150-175

WOW...... there sure is a lot of bad tech here. :shake:

If the rear is leaking oil, the bearing and axle will make a howling sound, if you don't take care of it, and cannot fix it yourself, it can be a lot of money.

I would look there first. Then more specif details on the car, miles, what service has been done etc.....

If it stopped leaking it's most likely empty.

There is a plug on the front of the center section / housing that you remove with a 3/8 ratchet. If you can feel oil in it it's OK.

I've asked about this whining noise before cause I have it. I was told it was the Mach 1 chin spoiler but, the original spoiler was wrecked and still whined after I took it off. I had the rear end serviced so not that. It only happens at speed. Can only hear it when the windows down so it’s tolerable. I’d just like to know what it is?? The only Mod’s I have are, Marty O's tune, JLT CAI, fogs with focus delete, HID headlights and Mach 1 spoiler back on. Is it those dam squirrels??

It was a nice day today so I had the window down while I was on the highway. I was in the passing lane with those cement barriers next to me and the car was making the high pitch whining noise like it always does but with the window down it was so bad I was going to roll up the window when I swerved to miss a piece of tire tread and noticed the whine stopped when I moved the steering wheel quickly. So that's it for me. A pump problem in the steering assembly. It drove me nuts trying to figure out what it was!! Any suggestions on what else I can do other than a new pump would be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

Change the fluid. Ford P/S pumps are famous for complaining with old fluid. Phoebe had the same problem when we bought her. Changed the fluid and she's been quiet for the last 80,000 miles.
