wht things do i look for before washing my motor and what not to do that would cause me some problems

First thing I look for is dirt...;)



COLD engine (never clean your engine hot).

Cover the alternator with a plastic bag.

Mix up a spray bottle of 1 part Simple Green and 2 parts water.

Spray the entire engine bay with the mixture. If there is a heavy build up, use a toothbrush to scrub and re-spray with mixture.

Let stand 5 to 10 minutes.

Hose off with a garden hose and nozzle set to cone or fan setting (you don't need a lot of water pressure, the cleaning solution does the work, all you want to do it flush it off).

Blow off excess water; I use a leaf blower.

Spray entire engine bay with a light coating of Croftgate or Stoner tire shine.

Repeat monthly, or more often if needed. Works great.
