I have a 03 Marauder and I have a blown headgasket on bank 2. Any suggestions on the fix. Don't want to take it to the shop because it cost too much. I'd rather fix it myself.

I'd replace the head gasket.

Welcome to the forum...

and depending on your mechanical skill level and availability of tools it may be best to save up $$$ and find a good shop that will fix it right for a fair cost.

Yup, same thing my old Uncle Henich used to say: "Wenn Sie eine geblasene Kopfdichtung haben, ist der beste Weg, es zu reparieren, es zu ersetzen."

Hi MidnightMaraudr

If I werre doing it I would pull the engine and put it on a stand it makes the job a whole lot easier for the little extra time it takes, official time is 16 hours for both sides but I reckon on 20 - 24 hours in the real world by the time all the exhaust bolts are froze solid, cleaning gaskets, ETC.

Depending on your skill level, you don't have to pull the engine. PS is a beotch to get the cam cover off of and you'll have to pull the front timing cover off to get the chains off.

WAIT JUST A MINUTE HERE!!!

i'll give you $8.00 and your whole problem can be shipped to me (in an enclosed carrier) :D

seriously if you have never done one just sell me the car.....

i mean save your dough and have it done by a pro. he won't be too happy if you take him a box of parts after you have given up. good luck

He said bank 2 so hes dealing with the drivers side. Still have to pull the timing cover off and will require locking the cams. Its not the worst job in the world but its not the easiest.

BTW, how did you come to the conclusion that you have a blown head gasket? You may be mistaking overheating for air in the system or a burnt valve.

Good point, Paul. OP should provide a little more info; I guess we just sorta jumped to conclusions.

I know is the headgasket beacause my uncle owns a shop and I had him check it out for me and he said it was the headgasket. I would take it to him but his shop is too far away. Thanks for the info at least I know now what I have to do. Thanks you guys.

Makes-0- sense. If he checked it out @ his shop that was too far away, it sounds like you should have left it to get it fixed.

Big job, and can be bigger depending on your skill level.

+1... why not leave it at the shop?

Have someone who knows what they're doing pull the engine. Have the heads redone with new valves and seats, new chains, guides, and tensioners. Like others have said, you probably have a burnt valve on #7 or #8. Did your uncle do a compression test on all 8 cylinders?

Support the economy. Pay someone else to do it right.

Oil in coolant? coolant in oil? White smoke? Overheating? Also how did you come to the conclusion that it was bank 2? These cars are not known for blowing head gaskets.

I also am curious as to what the concerns are, DTCs? What's going on with car? Unless you severely over heated the motor I've never heard of a blown head gasket on a 32V that is stock.... and if you overheated it that much then pretty sure you'll need more then a head gasket.

Pause here for a moment, our engines are not known for having blown head gaskets but are prone to valve seat separation. Especially on DR side of engine #7 or #8 cylinders.

The indications are the same, loss of compression or ticking. The work will still involve removing the head and then the head repair.

What I'm saying is be prepared for a valve job and seat replacement.

Check with the Mustang clubs in your area as to shops. Not many work of 4V mod motors. Most shops will want to remove the motor, then advise you to do a valve job on both heads. The Head cooling mod will be a good investment at this point.
This is not a cheap repair.

It has thick white smoke coming from the exhaust when cold but thins out once it warms up. Yes it over heats and the upper coolant hose swells.

Still have to pull the timing cover off and will require locking the cams. What? When I dropped my valve seats, I didn't have to lock the cams - I just didn't remove the secondary timing chains on the head.......

^that's what I did, the Zack way.

Basically that's what this guy needs to do.

I made these. Rude and crude, but a potential valve savor. One thing to remember, I have heavy weight springs. I know the throwback quite well as one of the cams rotated on me and damn took a chunk of finger while holding my 1" wrench! Ouch..
