Just finished going through one hassle after another with these techie-techie radio guys - lots of big speaker systems to bounce the car off the shocks while the stereo/cd/iPod is blasting...but know nothing about how or why a radio works.
The OEM radio in my '03 Marauder was not playing the AM stations very well....And we have a big AM station for news/weather/traffic/etc in the Boston area that is a godsend for info.
Techie number 1 says those AM stations aren't any good anymore - live with the problem.
Techie number 2 says I need to replace the rear window and the whole antenna system.
Techie number 3 says - those radios wear out and I have to buy one his $800 Panasonics to get AM reception.

Well the MM.net forums give me some info on a plug and play replacement with an Escape radio - I find it on-line - plug it in and it looks OEM - everything works fine including the steering wheel controls - except the woofer is not supported - so 4 new wide-range speakers take care of that.

Thanks to all the prior info that the members have contributed to this site  it makes a big difference in how these problems can get resolved.

So I did the door/cupholder/console greenies with the speakers being changed...great addition ... I recommend it for that extra bit of finesse after dark :D

Thanks to all the contributors....

Did you check behind the rear seat for the little bolt that fastens the ground wire for the rear window antenna to the seat support bracket? Lots of MM owners have had radio reception problems and traced them to the wire coming loose.
After 11 years in existence of MM.net there can't be many Marauder related problems left some one or another of the members hasn't figured out a fix for.

our factory radios have a know problem of failing, it normally starts with the loss of FM then AM, the escape audiophile 6-disc in dash units are great replacements/ upgrades. As far as I know the sub should work, its the trunk mounted CD changer that is not compatible, but luckily its not needed anymore.

Yes - your are right - the sub is still working - just checked. Do not need the CD changer - right - got room for 6 upfront.

To the other item - I had checked the grounds and wiring before buying the Escape unit.
Thanks
