headlights going off in the auto mode

Help please
Headlights are going out while driving. 30 seconds to a minute the come back on. Computer anilzer finds nothing.Switch is in the Auto mode. Auto mode seem to be workin. Could it be the switch. Itried to put the switch in the on mode. Sometime works and sometime it does not, during these spells

It's the LCM (Lighting Control Module) going bad. Specifically, its one of the relays inside the module going bad. Do a search here and you'll find tons of great info on the problem and recommended repairs.

Long story short, you can either replace the LCM with a new one from Ford for around $300 or you can repair the one you have and it will be fixed forever for a much lower cost. Ford never fixed the problem for our year modules so a new one will eventualy go bad.

a trick for now when goes out tap on it right under ur steering wheel little black box

sb2463: Classic symptom of the headlight relay failing inside the LCM. Not related to using the headlights in auto mode. It will happen in manual mode also. When it happens again tap the LCM (located just to the right of the steering column), if the lights come back on it's the LCM.

If you get a new one from a dealer it WILL fail again since Ford never upgraded the specs for the relay.

dmjarosz: I wish they were only $300.00..... try almost $600.00 plus installation. Will cost $700.00 plus if done at a dealership.

I offer two option for a repaired LCM that I will warranty for as long as the car is running.

1 - $75.00 – you send my your LCM, I repair it and send it back the same day I get it, 2-3 day return shipping

2- $275.00 via PayPal, I send you a repaired LCM, you send me your old LCM, when I get it back I refund $200.00 to your PayPal account provided your LCM is in repairable condition.

Just an FYI.... be careful about buying a repair service or a repaired LCM from eBay. All the "services" just replace the OM relay with another relay with the same specs! This is just as bad as buying a new LCM from Ford... IT WILL FAIL AGAIN!

I have also seen "repaired" LCM's that look like a gorilla repaired it. Most of these I can not repair hence the notation about your LCM being in repairable condition to get your core charge back.

Personally I'd do it before it acts up..... you know it will not work when you need it most!

If it is your LCM and you have the adjustable pedals remove the pedal motor and pedal before you take the LCM in and out. Makes life MUCH easier.

I've taken out and replaced 20 LCM. Never once did I have to remove the pedals. I'll post the removal instructions shortly.

LCM Removal:

The LCM is about the size of a brick and is located just to the right of the steering column, in front of the gas pedal and above the OBDII connector.

There are 3 electrical connectors on the LCM.

Remove the bottom two connectors by depressing the tabs and pulling on the connectors.

Remove the 2 mounting screws with a 7mm nut driver or socket.

Push the LCM towards the gas pedal while rotating it up towards the roof. Once it’s free of the bracket, pull the back of the LCM down towards the floor.

You should now be able to release the last electrical connector.

Just reverse the steps for re installation.

I've sent these out to at least 100 members that I sent a repaired LCM to. Haven't heard of anyone having a problem doing R&R.
