My knowledge of Camshafts is elementry so I am my friends here if there is any tangible benefit from changing the camshafts. Maybe make more power down low? No Flames , please. just looking for info.
Yep...it will help...but it is BIG $s...remember, you have to buy 4 of them.

how hard would a cam swap be? seeing as they are overhead cams might be easier than taking off all the radiator stuff to get to the cam, just pop off the head covers, and your there??

Wow I learn alot quickly here. Everything costs alot of money, no surprise there. And Ikm not sure about the process but I dont trust my self to do anything engine related. I think this might be promsing.

uhg! I wish it were that simple. Removing the valve covers are a total PITA! One I won't do myself, and I'm a mechanic!

Don't forget the necessary computer retune once you swap cams. If the PCM is the engine's brain, the cams are its DNA.

The above problems and you also may have to change valve springs with the cam you want.
To have it done right (see correctly, by an experienced engine builder) on a N/A car...would run close to $5K....I know this for a fact.
It's more than just changing camshafts.

Plus didnt someone say it takes like 7 or 8 hours to get the valve covers on and off these things?
I think the single cam through the front of the motor would be way easier!

Check the 2004 Ford Racing Catalog... they have ported / polished DOHC heads, custom cams, and a complete performance valvetrain kit. I haven't looked at the price yet, but I'm really considering these parts (after my trans work, of course!).

From looking at the valve covers on our engine, I can see why it would be a total PITA to take them off. I agree that this is more or less appropriate during an engine rebuild in the future, especially when superchargers appear to be giving such impressive results!

I agree. No cam change is going to give the kind of power increase as a Supercharger will, and to really do it right, you'll have to do it the way Constable mentioned. I'm sure that doing it that way would cost close to being just as much $$ as a Supercharger kit would, but w/less power gains despite all the claims of the camshaft companies.
I'm going to offer a little friendly advice here. If you don't want it, then you don't have to pay attention. I've had three different camshafts in my V8 350 engined Vette. I did the work myself, and I've also installed new after market cylinder heads on it too w/an entire upgraded valvetrain. And let me tell you, don't expect a night and day difference from those things. Yes, it will make the car faster, but it isn't like you're going to jump in the car and immediately feel a colossal seat of the pants diffence in the way the car accelerates. You wil notice it at the track in your ET's, but it will never compare to a power adder like a supercharger.
My point is that if you're going to spending almost as much $$ on that as you would for a Supercharger, then you'll be more pl;eased w/the S/Cer. Going w/a bigger camshaft will only move the available power higher up in the RPM range. yes, you'll have a bit more power, but the more that you obtain from a camshaft upgrade, the higher up in the RPM range that it will be.
