View Full Version : I Need Advice from you Engine Builders

Well, as you know, I'm a newer member here. My intro thread showed my engine rebuild work back in August 2012. At that time, I had Dover Cylinder Head rebuild both cylinder heads because of bad valve seats and a burned exhaust valve on cylinder #8. All valves were replaced and hardened valve seats were installed.

Well, the last couple of weeks, I've really noticed a "surging" when I'm sitting in traffic, similar to what it felt like when I first got the Marauder. So I pull it into my shop today to do the dreaded compression test. I test bank 2 first. I started with #5 it had 120 psi, #8, had 115 psi, #7 had 110, then #6 had 60 psi :mad2: I almost lost my freaking mind. Bank 1 is all good. I applied compressed air to the cylinder to find what was causing the compression loss. Air is constantly blowing out of one of the exhaust valves.

So, what should I do now. I've called Dover and they don't really seem interested in helping me. They basically said "we'll take a look at it, but we did everything we were supposed to do, no corners were cut." Anyway, it's only been 5,000 miles since the rebuild, and just got done with a complete rebuild on the rear end (4.10's) bought MO's tune, removed and resealed transmission. There's no MIL, nothing on the misfire counter on data stream.

I'm open to suggestions, so much for saving for a supercharger....:censor:

Thanks in advance, guys.

What kind of warranty did they give you on the work?

No matter what you have to take it apart and see what has happened. At that point, you can give Dover a chance to make the situation right (if they are at fault) or you fix what ever the other issue is.

12 months, but they guy suddenly changed his tune when he realized it was a Marauder. He almost went as far to say "We don't do these anymore, or I mean, we didn't cut corners".

Thanks to the other responses as well. I know in the end, I have to pull the head off to see what's going on, but I guess I'm fishing for options. I've done nothing but dump $$ in this car and I cannot believe I'm already having this same issue again, but on a different cylinder, AND after installing the Even Flow Head Cooing Mod.

I just had Safelight put a new windshield in, because the jackass that installed a new one back in October didn't seal it right, so I've been battling a puddle in the driver's front floor board for two months, thinking it was a stopped up rain channel. At least that's fixed now. It's just there's a lot of stuff going on with it at one time....

Dave, I am sorry I missed your call this morning. I will try to call you as soon as i get free.

I have never worked with Dover so I can not comment on them. The fellow that does our head work has always done a great job and he is local so that is the route we take.

If you pull the head off (which has to happen), and Dover can't/won't help you out, I would be happy to have our head guy look the head over.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

You don't have the rear cooling mod done i take it. Whatever you do with the heads, you should do that also.

No worries on the missed call, Marty. You're a busy man!

I'll get it pulled asap and see what it looks like. I will take you up on that offer if it doesn't work out with Dover.

Thanks!

As stated earlier, I actually do. I used the Even Flow HCM.

Should I use a different crossover style? Thanks.
