What are the symptoms if the factory alram starts to go bad. Right now the car won't start or even crank. It acts like there is no battery in the car. The lights come on etc and teh alarm light flashes. I think this is connected to the issue of my fuel pump and radio cylcing on and off and the window control lights staying on that I thought were fixed. I found the batter dead this morning I think due to the pump cycling on and off spontaniously during the night...any ideas.

Are you talking about a dealer-installed alarm system? No Marauder had a "factory" alarm. The red blinking light is for the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System). The symptoms you describe sound like you're trying to use an uncoded key.

They are the keys that I have been using since I bought it. So why now is it rejecting the key. There are other issues IE fuel pump no run when raining. COuld the PCM be going bad???

I bad key will cause the car to crank with no start and the red LED to flash rapidly while cranking.

How old is the battery? A lot of times a battery going bad or a cell going bad does weird things to the car and make it unpredictable,,,,.

Not sure hold old the battery is. It's always cranked strong and looks brand new.

Can a key go bad???

sounds like a corroded or chaffed wire, mine did this and since electrical isnt my thing it went to a shop. 3 bad factory splices and $500 bucks later it worked great.

Get the battery checked out ASAP. An almost dead battery will cause strange things to happen.

Start with the easy things first.

BAD MERC is right...a PATS issue would cause a crank/no-start. You said it wouldn't even crank, so there's something else going on. My bad...

When my key went bad a couple years ago, it caused a no crank condition. Borrowed a car, went home and grabbed my other key all she started right up. I have disabled PATS in the tune, no more of that BS.

I put a fully chaged new battery from my LSC in the car and it did the same thing. Is there any one thing that is connected to all the things going on/wrong with the car by any chance??? I know I can't be that luck...

Check all the harnesses in the engine compartment.

Pay close attention to the harness behind the drivers side cam cover and the harness at the left front.

Check all the grounds in the engine compartment. Make sure they are clean and tight.

Any previous history like accidents?

Just checking, but is the battery in your LSC a series 65 battery?

Otherwise, your test is invalid.

No really.

As long as it's fully charged it should be good as a test.

OK,

I met up with Bill and talked about what his car was donig.

He had the battery disconnected due to the fuel pump running like the Energizer Bunny.

Both keys would not crank the engine, and the PATS light would rapidly flash.

Note: rapid clicking under the dash coming from near the LCM and where you would plug up a handheld.

Removed that battery, checked the main harness just under the master cylinder and all looked good.

Removed the relays for the PCM, Fuel pump, etc... and reseated all of them.

The battery from Bill's LSC went in, tightened up the cables and fired right up. Both keys used and all was well. No clicking under the dash, no rapid flashing PATS light, and when turning the car off, no sound of the fuel pump running.

We did this multiple times, and with the exception of a CEL, the car runs fine and all seems normal.

The battery in the car was in it, when the car was purchased, and recommended Bill keep the battery from his LSC in there for a few days to see if any or all issues go away.

He will be running erronds today, and plans on hitting a FLAPS to pull the code, then clear it out.

We shall see....

;)

Mike.

The car ran fine. Was not able to reset the CEL light at the one AZ because they said they were not aloud to do it and gave me a pamphlet on why:dunno:. Got back too late for the one by the house to reset like last time. Everything closes early in Mt Washington:shake:. Am trying to cut wet grass with mowers that aren't cooperating. Going out very shortly though. If it is the battery I will be elated and beat my head against the wall since that is usually the first thing my Dad and me look at. The MAF and not starting is what threw me off this time...

They aren't allowed to reset the CEL in MA, either.

Stupid rule, meant only to protect the stupid from themselves.

Well it was good while it lasted...the fuel pump cycling is back as well as the radio cycling. However something new is there was a clicking coming from teh fuse box under the hood. I did some more checking, undid the main connector to the PCM took some fuses out and cleened the metal contacts and replaced others to no avail. I'm hoping it will still do it in the morn as I drive it up to Ford, since they said I could bring it in WHEN it was doing it. We'll see. THe battery that was in the car was fully chraged and it checked out!?!?!? On the up side, as of this writing the car has styed running in the rain. So that's a positive note I guess...
