I was wondering, typically what color is the coolant used in these cars supposed to be? Orange, Green or...?

Per the owners manual.....

Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant (green-colored) Ford spec: ESE-M97B44-A

or

Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant (yellow-colored) Ford spec: WSSM97B51–A1

Depends on when the 2003 MM was made. If your MM was built prior to 7/15/02, then it takes green. After 7/15/02, it takes yellow. However, after 10+years, anything can be changed.

Funny, I was waiting for that! :P

BTW, it is an 2004. It didn't look green... I will have to check and see when I get home.

Mine looked yellowish so I went with the Gold at my next flush.

Too hard to distinguish the gold from rust. Green for me.

I always stick with the Motorcraft coolant. Should be able to find it at WalMart or local parts store.

If an engine has the Green stuff, and you want to switch to the Gold, or visa-versa, flush the block out before you add the new back in.

These 2 types of anti-freeze, do not play well together from what I have been told.

I will probably then get the coolant changed too. Do you think the Ford dealer will know the proper procedure so I don't wind up with coolings issues and burping? :puke:

I'll think about which color in the meantime....:P

I would certainly hope so! The last few I did I just preburped every single hose on the system with fluid in the funnel before I even started the car. Then I fired them up, ran for a few minutes and capped it off. Never once an issue and always full and air free.

I run both colors in my car, the engine gets gold and the inter cooler system gets green. Helps to identify if I have a leak somewhere.

Well, just went to the Ford dealer. I asked them to check all the fluids and let me know what they thought. Coolant was the worst, supposed to be yellow but definately dirty and needed to be cleaned. Trans fluid looked great, oil was changed in October with about 100 miles on it. The brake and Ps fluid were acceptable. He recommended not changing brake fluid until brakes are done again (which, it turns out, has fairly new brakes on it!). So, being couped up at work for very long hours and no days off for the next two-three weeks, I opted for the Coolant change and an oil change.
They also did a checkover on the car. Amazing, but everything (except two tires scoring in the "yellow") was scored "Green" or good to go!
I guess it was in better condition than I estimated. But, I would rather plan for the worst.....:burnout:

I run green in both my engines cooling system and my blowers intercooler. So when I have a leak. It makes it harder to distinguish. Should be EPIC fun when that time comes.
