I installed a time delay relay to close the circuit briefly after a few seconds of key on. If the switch is closed prior to key on, it's ignored.

Just press the button to turn it off everytime you start the car... it will get to be a habit.

When I drive the wife's Charger I automatically try to hit the button.

I used to want to disable it. Until I almost died on a 1-2 shift going around a corner in the rain. Traction control has def saved my butt a few times.

Can't you turn it off in the tune somewhere?

Why is it desireable to turn off the T/C ?

Why is it desireable to turn off the T/C ?

If you wish to do burnouts or run the same size tire all around..marauders with T/C need the different size from front to rear (3% or so size difference) or it will think there is a traction problem/wheel spin problem and trip it.

That stuff I can understand, but it seems like a lot of guys who are just poking around town with the stock tire set-up, and not racing / doing burnouts etc., still routinely turn the T/C off ?

^^^^ What they said. It became habit for me as I always turn the TC and OD off before I even put the car in gear.

Only time I turn it on is when driving in snow/ice and I am stopped on an incline, otherwise it's off every time I drive it.

Serious question...what's the point of turning off the TC? I mean does it increases MPG if you take it off, more hp and/or torque or what?:confused:

Right, but why ?
I got into the habit of turning it off after I had to put on stock front size on the rear as both my rears had a combo of 5 nails in them and both went flat at the same time.

I also enjoy it off as I know whenever the mood strikes I can spin tires but I grew up without traction control on RWD and I know how to control spins and slides.

It's also the point to where if I need to punch the throttle my car moves a lot more when the tires are spinning than with the traction control engaging to lessen the tires spinning.

I always turn mine off, and/but having the orange indicator light in my peripheral vision always bugged me..."orange light = something's wrong". I had a pal from the Crown Vic Forums redo the LED to green and I like that a lot better..."green light = everything's OK".

Serious question...what's the point of turning off the TC?

Its intervention threshold might be at a point that differs from a driver's ability, and its intervention characteristics might not be what the driver wants.

Experimenting in controlled (and preferably instrument-tested) conditions with TC on/off can be interesting, especially in the wet.

Agreed, I do turn it off when I'm out playing around. For me, T/C and O/D off = weekend warrior mode ;)

I turn it off when I'm at the track/auto-x/open track. Other than that I leave it on. Its a really gentle system compared to our Cobra. You can still kick the ass out with the MM TC. With our Cobra It will throw you into the steering wheel even on a tiny bit of wheel spin on a fast shift. So in that car it gets turned off unless its raining.

Quick question, will this prevent the car from going over a certain RPM? I'm running same size tires and I had an incident where I could not accelerate past 60 and it wouldn't rev past a certain RPM.

Yup. Should cut ignition timing as well as apply the brakes.

Ok, thank goodness. I thought it might have been something terrible but now it all makes perfect sense.

If you've got T/C and are running the same size tires all the way around, you should turn it off whenever you start the car. The system is designed to sense a 3 to 5% variance in rotational speeds between the front and rear tires. If it doesn't see that, it tries to correct for that, and not only can that be disconcerting, it can be downright dangerous, like when you're trying to accelerate onto an interstate merge ramp; ask me how I know...

If there's not a button on the trim panel to the left of the steeing wheel, you don't have T/C.

Is your car an early '03? Those didn't come with traction control.

My boys asked the same question: So we had vocabulary class the other day.

"Warrior mode" is a new phrase for my boys.

Example: "Hang on Auggie, Dad's in 'warrior mode'". :D Or.... "Oh crap, dad's in warrior mode now, better not tell mom!" They encourage it often since picking up the MM in March!

 Sounds like guspech's daughter when he nails the loud pedal, she'll holler out "Hang on, this is NOT a drill!...":D
