View Full Version : 40 years from now

we made it through a decade so far with our Marauders & for the most part our cars still fit in with the everyday appearance of most cars. (I know, I know we all know our Marauders stand out to ourselves, but I'm talking general population as a whole)
so thinking about 30 or even 40 years from now & wondering where our cars will be viewed. especially folks (like Dom) who will be driving his Marauder everyday! it will be like the guy who drives his old 1973 volkswagen beetle as daily driver. I guess most of us in time will eventually park our Marauder & keep it garaged until time for shows & summer. Do you think the way we view classic muscle cars today (60s & 70s Mustangs, Cougars, Torinos etc) is how we'll view the Marauder in the future.
I'd like to say I'm keeping my Marauder for life, but just wondering how the next 40 or 50 years will evolve & adapt my perception. not trying to be doom & gloom on this but simply rolling some thoughts around I'm my head.

I'm sure eventually I'll park it just like someone parks a Yenko. Parts will be almost non existent and what perhaps will be available will make it too expensive to buy. I highly doubt reproduction parts of some MM specific parts will ever be made for such a limited car. :(

I hate these 30-40-50 year future type questions.
I'll be 100 in 30 years, and 110 in 40 years.
Maybe my kids will still have my 64 Galaxie and/or my 2003 TBird, but, since my youngest daughter will be 72 in 40 years, I wouldn't bet on it.
(Besides, how would I collect?):):)

you my friend have an old soul and i like(love) it(you):eek: (shhh)
after a good conversation with curless today i agree with what he had to say. there are alot of people who don't know about our cars. i think in time they are going to think they are modified cv's  then after they are informed they'll be placing their bids at barret jackson (we can always hope:D)
also think our cars are at or near the bottom of the swing as far as pricing.
i too could never see myself without a marauder:beer:
that still cracks me up because i've thought for over 20 years i would have these feelings for a gto:dunno:

This is why I drive it everyday. Tomorrow is uncertain.
30-40 years from now I better have a garage, if I make it that long.

I feel your pain on the age thing. But as for value, I don't think The "modern" cars will be as colllectible as say a bottom line 50-60'sChevrolet, Ford or Mercury is now. I'll go so far as to say, with some execption, cars past '77 aren't getting the value of their older counterparts. I know my '79 Blass sitting at 34 years isn't at the value the older cars were at the same age. I think there is a fall off, and the closer you get to our Marauders the fall off is larger. Hope I'm wrong, but my opinion none the less...

At the Marauder's rate of attrition, there will only be our Marauders left.
We'll be buying/selling them from/to each other.

haha we'll find a cryogenic chamber for you ! lol
But I'm not arguing about the value of the car and it's worth at auction in the future. I'm merely looking at the steps we all might taken to keep the car running, garaged, daily driven, stored or what-have-you. It's an interesting concept.

I say rip out all the electronic crap, slap a Cleveland 351 Interceptor and call it a night. That way maintaining is sooooo easy.

The cars we drove 50 years ago were lucky if they hit 65,000 miles without major repairs. Anything on a used car lot with that kind of mileage was passed over. That's why we changed cars so frequently; wear and tear, especially since every block was another stop light drag race.
Having the same car for the next 30/40/50 years was never even considered.
(But, never say never. I bought my Galaxie 44 years ago, but I never knew I was going to keep the car that long when I bought it.)
No, no Atlanta.
But, there is an old car show on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ, on the May 9th weekend that I plan to attend.

Mmmmmm as one of the younger members at 28 I will be 58 years old not to bad I guess but man that seems like a life time away . I said that when I was 16 years old that I can't see myself at 30 well now 2 years away wow
Ok back to the op question asked .. I like to see the mm line still be around 50 years from now that be amazing to look in a classic car book and see a 03/04 marauder in it . The issues that may come up is gas/oil down the road could we be out of both in 50 years ??!!? God I hope not but you never know.
Will gas be 30-40 dollars a gal .... I hope not but if things happen and we may have to park our Marauders for good because of the price of gas /oil :(
Just my 2 cents

Mines been for sale since the day I bought it! Everything has a price. If I am still driving this around and not experiencing all the other countless fun cars, then something went horribly wrong.
I like the car, don't get me wrong, but thirty years??? Hells no.

Yeah, that's what I thought.
In the late 70's, I was all set to trash the Galaxie and pick up a 57 DeSoto, yellow/white, 2dr hardtop (huge fins!) from a used car lot. Nice body, but needed a new interior.
But, convertibles were no longer being made, so I decided to keep and update the Galaxie.
Next January, the car turns 50, and I will have owned her for 45 years.
Deserves a party.
