From my experience with the MM audio set up, there is definately a difference among different speakers as well as headunits. speakers are easy, the more efficient the louder with same given power. now the sub amp gets its signal from a 4 wire harness (the smallest 1 out of the 3 harnesses) behind the radio. The wire colors are: brown w/ orange stripe is +, red w/ black stripe is -, black is ground, & green w/ purple stripe is remote turn on. If you replace the radio with an aftermarket one you would use the rear or sub out RCAs for the signal pick up. HERE'S the kicker, the higher the RCA voltage output is (4 volt versus 2 volt) - the louder the sub will be. This is ideal to do since there is not a gain control on the amp. I cut 2 RCA cords and attached the + to + & the - to - to make sure the mono pick up gets both signals - left & right. I used heat shrink tubing as well as zip ties to keep everything neat. ALL IN ALL, with the change to the kenwoods 3 way 6x8s all around, the kenwood 6.75" sub and the clarion dxz 835mp headunit - the sound is amazing. Even with the factory sub amp!!
