View Full Version : No cruise, A/C, and airbag code after engine/trans swap

I haven't really looked into all three much besides tracing wires briefly and checking the clock spring. I now finally have the time to dig in and chase these last three gremlins since my engine swap and the manual tranny, now that I am done fixing the gear implosion and other stuff in life is mostly caught up.

Any quick ideas that may lead to all of these failing/in-op? Hoping to find a single ground off, but I'm never that lucky..

Symptoms since start up:
No A\C - compressor doesn't run, all lines warm. All other controls seem fine.
No cruise function at all. - I may dig into the wiring schematic for the old multifunction switch because deciphering that went. Way. To. Easy..

Code for drivers air bag after 1000 miles of use. - thinking I may have miss clocked the steering shaft (clock spring winding) and screwed the pooch, I took it out and it seemed to be clocked exactly at the most neutral part and zero signs of abnormal wear.

Getting warmer out, time to get my junk back in shape :)

How about the horn and the radio controls do they work?

Check the fuses and circuit breakers.

Horn and cruise use the same circuit, if the horn works, your relay and fuse are working.

I have 1 thing I stumble across from time to time, 1 or more of the grounds are loose or not hooked up at all on the drivers side fender, back by the firewall, easy to miss, but I've seen it 3 times on Vics, and it tends to create similar symptoms.

AC, low pressure switch or connector....

And......... check your fuseable links....

I saw that earlier in the Alldata diagrams Daren, but thanks, I'll check that.

Horn and temp controls are fine. Radio controls quit working about a year ago, but thought that may be related to the aftermarket unit for the Pioneer, perhaps not. Leaning towards the clock spring, regardless if it looks "good".

A/C turned out to be a connector not quite all the way locked down on the compressor itself. But I was wrong, there was other issues, air only coming from the top and bottom. The vacuum line was pinched somewhere outside on the firewall, but I couldn't get in there real well, so I ended up just using the old vacuum for the parking brake release for now and capped off the one at the manifold till the next time the wiper assembly is off.

Unless you added an interface for the Pioneer the controls will not work.

Air coming out defrost and floor could be the EATC o-rings.

Yes Jim, the interface is what I meant. It only worked right for a couple months, followed by hit or miss for a few months, then nada.

The vents are fixed now, it was the vacuum issue I described. Thanks for the suggestion, but Russ did some preventative maintenance on mine a couple years ago.

I'll look into the clock spring a little more later. If I deem that the culprit, it can wait a little while longer. The money that has gone into this car in the last two years is insane, not too mention work being slowwww. Tons of work, even more than last year, just in a waiting stage..

I'll pull up the schematics and test down the column and see what's what.

Also for reference, the air bag code was 19. Depends who you listen to, but some say it is the dreaded crash data full code, and the others say Drivers side air bag.

Did you pull the seats out? I'd say yes you did -- plug in the wire connector to the seats and see if if ABS goes out.

Yes they were removed. Connectors all plugged in. I'll still check the connections again.
