This has happened several times before. Immediately following a WOT romp, the engine just dies. I've been too busy looking for a place to safely guide her in for a "landing" to look at other than my dash board gauges.
Basically it takes me about three to four tries to start her back up again followed by smoke coming under the hood.
Any idea what this could be?

Fuel rail pressure sensor leaking fuel into vacuum system? IAC sticking?

Aye on the second one. I'm thinking it's the IAC valve. Not sure that interplays with the Trilogy (1 generation). I'll have Randy take a look at it when the car goes into the shop next month.

Do you still have the Trilogy chip? Mine used to do the exact same. If so, pull it out and clean the contacts. Duct tape it back down TIGHTLY.
Also it did this intermittently when my fuel pump was slowwwwly on the way out..

Yup. Still got the chip in place. I've replaced my fuel pump about three years ago with the GT40 one. Dialed up the boost-a-pump to 10.

Clean the contacts so good they appear GOLD. Any hint of corrosion and it will do all kinds of messed up stuff. Ask me how I know. Then tape that sucker down really really tight.
After that, data log your FPDC when you go for your test drive.
