Hi,

I've read that the Marauders engines were engineered by Roush. Can someone explain what that means?

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe the engines were.....

Rousch did design the intake for the MM.

Oh ok, so it's got it's own intake manifold? Cool! I wasn't sure what he designed, in the '03 brochure, it says that the engine was engineered by Roush, it was pretty vague.

What's different about our manifold versus the Cobra, Aviator, Continental, Mark VIII?

For one, driver's side intake.

Non-SC cobra, Mark 8 and Mach 1 all have passenger side intake. I forget which way the Continental is. The Marauder and Aviator share the same lower intake I believe but the Aviator has a single TB opening on the upper intake lid to the driver's side and something else is slightly different from ours.

I'm very interested as to why the Marauder has a different intake than the others. Is it for additional low end torque, or is it due to clearance issues?

Yup. 10 characters.

I don't know the answer, but I did read that the MM had one of the best-flowing intake designs of any car of its time. Or maybe just among Fords...it had some distinction anyway.

Yes, the MZT (Marauder Zip Tube) Mod was a standard upgrade for Crown Vic guys.

Yup, heard the same thing; air box, filter and zip tube are supposed to be one of the best-flowing intake designs.

Roush also had something to do with the wheels. I talked to one of the Roush staff years ago who was working on it. Don't remember exactly what the connection is.

Jerry W did the driveability development on the Mule.

Jerry W. = Jerry Wrobeleski or something like that (spelling) he was one of the Ford engineer behind the transmissions for crown vic, marquis and marauder and developed what is commonly called the "J-Mod" to these transmissions.

On the stock air intake on the tube there's a plastic part that hangs down Any clue what it's there for ? Air flow ?

I believe that it's just a silencer. That's the piece I had mentioned capping off with the lid to a peanut butter jar or similar item. Blip the throttle and you'll get that "Whoooosh" sound like you do with a JLT or K&N

^^^^^ What he said on Jerry.

The mule was the test platform that was built to do the preliminary engineerig and developmental work for the Marauder program.

Wroblewski.

(wow...exactly 10 characters :) )

He also went on to be one of the lead developers for SCT.

It's called a Helmotz Resonator. Used to quite the air flow inside the intake tube.

No need to use a jar lid... just cut the closed end of resonator off, push it into the hole in the intake tube and use a hose clamp to secure it.

So Roush must have designed the Mach 1 intake too because the MM and the Mach 1 lower intakes have the same part number. The only difference is the upper goes to the driver's side on the MM and to the driver's side on the MM.

The Mach 1 is supposed to be the best factory N/A 4.6 4v intake design, just slightly better than the Marauder. The '99-'01 Cobra intake is similar but does not perform as well as either the Mach or the Marauder.
