hey guys new to the site, I was driving my 2003 Marauder yesterday and it was raining out, I stopped at a red light and the car was cool, then as the light turned green I accelerated like usual when all of a sudden the 'O/D off' light started to flash on and off, and the car was driving like complete s*it, it almost feels like its stuck in 2nd or 3rd? it wont shift gears but it goes R P N D no problem but as soon as i give gas it moves slow until the RPMs get to about 2000 and then it goes but it never shifts?? I popped the hood, checked the fluids and they were a little low so i replaced them and still the same, idk if its related but I do notice a ground wire bolted to the chassis right by the trans fluid dipstick is completely green and corroded? any ideas?

Sounds like a bad range selector switch.

For giggles, slide the shifter between neutral and drive. Sounds like it is between drive and second right now.

Any problems starting it?

ill look into it. i thought it might be something computer related because I had a dude up at Auto Zone run the codes and it was saying the shift cylinoids & torque converter were shot...just at a loss right now....completely ****ing lost..

ECM will not command a shift if it thinks its in second. Could be other things. Start simple and try what I said. Panthers have a long history of malfunctioning selector switches.

k, will do. but about that ground wire, do you think that has anything at all to do with it? it looks like it runs to or close to the trans. not sure though, the whole thing is corroded.

This sounds very familiar to the problem I was having a month or so ago. Turns out it was a bad shifter solenoid. The only way I was able to figure that out though is the CEL came on

You mean the firewall to right side head ground? If its green... Just do replace it anyways.

I had a dude up at Auto Zone run the codes and it was saying the shift solenoids & torque converter were shot.."A dude up at Auto Zone"? and you trust him? Can you post the codes? Simply saying some code says something is "shot" is not helpful...

Welcome to the site!

Now I gotta be honest with you, you own a nice car. Its not a cheap car...DON'T GO TO AUTOZONE ANYMORE!!!!!!!! Do you really want a $10 an hour person working on your car????? I know I am biased due to the fact that I operate a shop but seriously I HATE AUTOZONE for constantly telling people to buy this or buy that due to a code...The code is a guide to the current issue, not gospel.

I am done ranting on your thread, if you have questions post em up and we will be glad to help! Once again welcome to the show, we'll get you fixed up in no time. There are a ton of great people on here that really come together to help each other out. Give us all of the info...codes, symptoms, etc and we'll find the answer!

Simply saying some code says something is "shot" is not helpful...BTW, Kaine, that wasn't meant toward you, but to the AZ guy...
