i was told stock box and a k&n filter. not sure how it goes together but that again was word of mouth and not actual experience. i had already gone with the jlt myself and am happy with it.

The stock intake system was designed by Rousch and is one of the best flowing intakes ever. A drop-in K&N is a complete waste of money over the stock filter.
If you must have an aftermarket CAI, JLT is the way to go.

JLT if you want to save some money, K&N FI kit if you want to spend almost double of what the JLT unit costs.
JLT is not carb approved, the K&N is I believe just in case you live in a nazi emissions state/area.

Really? Mine came with a K&N drop in filter when I bought it. So..instead of buying the K&N filter cleaning kit, and cleaning it, I should just buy a Motorcraft OEM Filter?

The reason why it's not worth it is because there are the JLT and K&N FI kits available. The K&N drop-in offers minimal gains over the stock filter element.

We use the K&N because it looks better than the 'I built this in my backyard with left over DWV pipe" Both are fairly equal in performance gains.
Basically aesthetics V. cost IMHO

Mine had a JLT on it when I bought it, no complaints.
I swapped out the S&B filter with an AEM recently because I'm not a huge fan of the oiled gauze filters. I haven't driven with the AEM enough to have an opinion on it yet.
