:(Well found a ripped grease boot today on the passenger side upper ball joint. Does anyone know if these a pressed in or a snap ring set up. How hard are they to replace and do you have to remove the control arm to replace the ball joint. Any input would be appreciated.

They are serviceable, but the price difference between a ball joint or the complete control arm is about $10 depending where you buy, I wouldn't waste my time just replacing the ball joint, replace the control arm. You need to remove the spring/shock to get the bolts out though.

The upper ball joint is serviceable by themselves, d/s was bad @ 80k so I replaced both side's & alignment. (had shop do it)

As old as these cars are, it typically makes the most sense to replace the whole control arm, saving labor on press work and getting new bushings in the process. Both sides, of course. ;)

Replace the whole control arm! If I were in town i'd give you a hand. I was able to do both sides on my Grand Marquis in about 3 hours.

Hi DS650

If the joint is okay just replace the boot, that's what I did with mine, cost me a whopping $4 for two boots, the hard part is undoing the nut on the ball pin as it just spins in the spindle.

This is what I'd do, because you know what will happen..... replace the ball joint then have to replace the bushings.... best do it all at once.

I am in the trade and in the U.K so I just called my local parts supplier, you could try Ebay, I did a quick search for "Ball joint boot" and came up with hundreds of different ones, it does appear they are more expensive your side of the pond.
