Unless you are comfortable doing the work I'd suggest you get it done professionally.

Not really a do it yourself project since you said "You have no clue" Call around to some transmission shops or if you know of any shops doing alot of mustang performance work. They should be able to do it or tell you who does their work.

No clue because you do not work on cars? No tools? Friends who know what they are doing?
This should not be your first car do it yourself item but it is not really hard either.
To give you a scope, not detailed instructions, Remove wheels, brake rotors, differential cover, clips that hold axles in, axles, and finally the clutches. Pretty sure you do not even have to remove the differential itself.
This will allow you to inspect the axles and change the differential oil. These axles are known to fail. May want to change the axle seals and possibly the bearings just since you are opening it up anyway.

The only axles "that are known to fail" were in a small number of 2003 Marauders. All of which have probably been replaced by now.

Not a bad job can do with few tools if you do not pull the center .if you take it to a shop get your 4:10 gears with the rebuild.did mine last week took about 8 hours working slow

This is true, but its not just gears at that point. Then its gears, instal kit, carbon rebuild kit for the posi, possibly axles, bearings and seals, and a tuner with tune....not cheap if you just want your posi fixed.

I think the stock posi carrier for these cars is now hard to come by. Ford Racing does not offer them in 28 spline anymore. I picked up a NOS for the wagon last fall and had to search a bit to find it.
When changing the axles on the Marauder, can we use the 31 spline axles with a new matching posi carrier?

Yes you can.
Or just get the 31 spline spider gears, cross pin and axles.

Replace, do not rebuild.
Same thing, but cheaper to rebuild.

Richmond gear list two different part #s for 28 spline and 31 spline pinion shafts, i think there is a difference between the two.

Spline count don't matter. Just order for 04 Cobra and reuse your old S spring.
