I am taking delivery on my new 2004 next week in the New Orleans area and planning to drive it home to California.

What break-in and /or other precautions should I take? :help:

Should I stop after a few hundred miles and have the oil changed?

How about speed and other considerations?

Should I stop and check things out? At what intervals?

I am going to accelerate slowly during this trip to take it easy on the fresh car. but I want to get some advise from other MM owners!

Thanks,

David

Congrats on your purchase. Too bad you had to go all the way to La. to pick it up. As for break in , well, your choice. Take it easy for the first few hundred miles, then as they say in "Mustang/Cobra" speak, "Drive it like you stole it!" I drove both my Cobra's this way, that last was traded for the MM at 100K miles. The MM no has 50K+ and a daily driver. No special treatment, and driven daily. Change the oil when you get home! Otherwise, enjoy the car!

I would appreciate more replies to this post.

I am going to pickup my new MM next week and I
will be driving cross country to take her home.

Thanks,

David

My first trip was from Rhode Island to Huntsville AL. I pretty much did the stuff in the owners manual, no long steady speeds, etc. for the first 500 miles. Then I started to drive it the way I still do, somewhat easy most of the time with a few scattered banshi runs (got a corner on the way to work that I like to thrash.) I've also drag raced it. Do the oil every 5K like the book says (you'll find plenty of oil threads here, so I won't digress). Watch the tires for uneven wear, listen for funny noises, but don't expect too many problems, especially around here. We are not a bunch of flamers or whiners. If you want that there are some sites for that. So far, I've got 50K on mine, nary a mechanical problem. First set of tires didn't last as long as I thought they should have (you'll find a lot of tire pressure/wear threads here also). As far as I'm concerned, the Marauder is the best car I've ever owned, probably even the best I've ever driven.

David - Congrats on the purchase of your Marauder. The frist road trip I took with 125 miles on the odometer was to Collinsvill, Il. Had the oil changed at approximately 1,200 miles. Vary the speeds for the first 500 miles and don't use the cruise control. I would check the oil and other fluids before starting and when stopping for fuel. Good luck with your new ride.
